Paradise Found Villa - Review Page 2
Bedrooms
Paradise Found Villa offers a choice of five large, sea-facing, fully en suite bedrooms. All five rooms are fully and efficiently air-conditioned, with an alternative choice of overhead ceiling fans and free-standing electric fans. At least three of the rooms are equipped with a refrigerator and all rooms are largely similar in terms of size and features. Each bedroom has its own distinctive decorate style. A cot is available.
Master Bedroom
The master bedroom is located at the end of the main leg of the “L”. It is a massive bedroom (approx. 28x16 foot) and is furnished with two queen-size double beds. The room will comfortably sleep four, if you are prepared to allocate such a lovely room to young children who might not appreciate the views. Mind you, it can be looked at another way. Should the occupants of the room have a row, they can each have their own bed, leaving a gap wide enough for a lady to reverse a car into (or a man, of course).
The master bedroom has a private balcony running the full width of the building (28x10 foot). This looks directly over Mount Irvine beach and provides wonderful views of the bay and sea, right the way down to Buccoo Reef. The balcony is furnished with a table and chairs, plus two sun recliners. The entire party could comfortably spend the entire day on this lovely balcony.
Leading off the master bedroom is a large walk-in wardrobe with dressing table. The wardrobe offers around 12 feet of hanging space, plus shelves and drawers. Even my co-editor, Jill, would have difficulty completely filling this with holiday clothing.
Next to the wardrobe is the en suite bathroom. Like all the bathrooms, the fittings were modern, in excellent “as new” condition and immaculately clean and well looked after. Each bathroom featured a bath with built-in shower. If one wanted to be picky, it would have been nice to have had a separate shower, rather than the compromise of standing in a bath, but I admit that I’m purposely looking for fault here.
Bedrooms 2 & 3
Adjacent to the master bedroom are two almost identical rooms. At around 16x16 feet, they are technically the smallest, but because of the open vaulted ceilings, they appear spacious and you are not immediately aware that they are slightly smaller than the others. This is largely because the actual room area has been retained by forgoing the walk-in wardrobes. Instead, these rooms have free-standing wardrobes and dressing tables. In every other way they are typical of all the rooms, having their own decorative theme, a queen-size double bed, en suite bathroom and refrigerator.
Bedrooms 4 & 5
These bedrooms are housed in the other “wing” of the “L”. Apart from décor, both rooms are of identical size, at 18x17 foot, and have similar facilities – queen sized double bed, walk-in wardrobe, en suite bathroom and refrigerator.
Although only the master bedroom has its own balcony, the other bedrooms are all within a few metres of the main covered patio. Bedrooms four and five each have a small table and chair on the common balcony running past the room. These look over Mount Irvine beach and I found this area a lovely, quiet and relaxing place to work, away from the the swimming pool and patio area which formed our party’s main communal area.
Swimming Pool & Patio
Without doubt, one of the strongest features of Paradise Found Villa is the covered pool and patio. When I first heard that this villa had an indoor swimming pool, I reacted with horror. An indoor pool in Tobago – you must be joking! In practise, it’s not exactly indoors and is a totally brilliant and unique design feature.
The pool and patio are housed at the top of the circular 45-foot diameter stone-faced turret that rises from the lower garden. The upper level of the turret is completely open on all sides, yet covered with a high domed conical roof supported by a central column with surround pillars and arches rising from a low neoclassical balustrade (I'm reading from my father's notes again!). Several large ceiling fans keep the air circulating.
The kidney-shaped swimming pool is around 35x15 feet, so occupies a little over a third of the total area. The patio occupies the remainder. The effect of this architectural feature is that while parts of the patio and pool are in sun, the majority is always in shade. You feel as if you are sitting, lounging or swimming under a giant sun umbrella. It must be absolutely brilliant during the wet season when rain might otherwise stop play.
The patio is furnished with three small tables and chairs, making a lovely casual dining area for up to a dozen people. This became our standard meeting and dining area. A number of sun loungers and a barbeque unit are provided.
Although the patio and pool is completely open, the property is surrounded by trees and other foliage that break the wind, so the sea breezes are nowhere as strong or cooling as those we had experienced on the Atlantic coast during the previous ten days. The large ceiling fans in the roof of the pool and patio area help to keep the air circulating, but everyone did tend to retreat to their room for a welcome siesta in air-conditioned comfort during the hottest hours of the day.
