Seagrape Villa - Review Page 2

Clientele

The Inn On The Bay is an adults-only hotel and does not accept children under 16. As the shared facilities of the Inn are a considerable advantage to guests at the Seagrape Villa it is therefore not surprising that Marie has a similar policy. However, in her case, she will accept children above 12 years of age.

Restaurants

The views from the lounge at Seagrape VillaThe restaurant at the Inn On The Bay is open to guests of Seagrape Villa and the public and provides live entertainment two nights a week.

In addition, the Inn also owns the Cat & Fiddle, which is located directly opposite Seagrape. This Caribbean pub is the venue of one of Tobago’s major “happenings”. Every Friday evening, the pub offers a wonderfully cheap barbeque and live entertainment and attracts the largest gathering of the Tobago business community and glitterati. It can be a little noisy until quite late, but the best way to deal with it is to join in and enjoy the music, dancing, food and atmosphere. Get there early to make sure you get a table. On other nights of the week, the Cat & Fiddle is almost deserted and you will hardly be aware that it is there.

It is only a 5-10 minute drive from Seagrape Villa to the Shirvan Road, which runs along the Caribbean coast. Half a dozen of Tobago’s best restaurants are located along the first two miles of this road, so anyone fancying a change from self-catering. or the local facilities at the Inn, will find attractive alternatives close to hand.

Swimming Pool

A smart new swimming pool has recently been completed, exclusively for guests of the ten duplexes. Previously, guests had the use of the small pool at the Inn On The Bay, but the no-under-16s policy was an obvious complication for guests with children.

Beaches

Little Rockley Bay beachIt is a walk of less than a minute from Seagrape Villa to Little Rockley Bay beach.

The Atlantic coast of Tobago is noted for its breezy conditions. Some people prefer this coast because it is cooler than the Caribbean side of the island much of the time. However, conditions obviously vary from bay to bay along both coasts.

Tobago’s prevailing winds vary from north-easterly to easterly over the coast of the year. As any map of the island shows, Little Rockley Bay is protected from the brunt of these winds by the land mass east of Scarborough and tipped by Bacolet Point. As a result, the conditions in the area adjacent to the Inn On The Bay can be very different indeed from the permanently blustery conditions found just a mile further down the coast in the Lowlands area.

The beach in Little Rockley Bay is very ‘natural’. The sand is a fine mixture of dark volcanic and yellow coral sand. The beach shelves gently and is very shallow for some distance from the beach. As with all beaches, swimmers must exercise great caution, ensure that they do not get too far from the beach and be particularly wary of currents that can so easily get even the strongest swimmer into trouble.

Shopping

The living room at Seagrape VillaThere are no local shops worth mentioning, so self-catering guests will want to do their main food and grocery shopping at the Penny Savers supermarket at Canaan, a 10-minute drive back towards the airport. Scarborough has an excellent open-air market for fruit and vegetables and is worth visiting simply for the experience of the vibrant atmosphere, but the small supermarkets in the town are crowded and parking can be a nightmare.

Conclusion

Without any shadow of doubt, Seagrape Villa offers hospitable, friendly and very affordable accommodation for parties of up to four adult visitors looking for self-contained accommodation. Marie is a wonderful hostess and visitors will appreciate her help and guidance to get the best out of Tobago (if they haven’t already done their research fully on myTobago).
