Pelican Villa - Review Page 2

Accommodation

Villa Pelican is a three-bedroom partly air-conditioned luxury villa offering 2,250sq.ft. of very comfortable living space. Being semi-detached, it is probably more accurate to describe it as a villa-apartment, but from a visitor’s point of view, the distinction is meaningless. We were totally unaware of the occupants in the other half of the villa (in fact because most of the villas are holiday homes and only a few rented out, it is rare to find both halves of a building occupied at the same time). There have been no discernable disadvantages to this spacious villa being semi-detached.

The views from the balcony at Pelican Villa (3-shot panorama) Although not fitted out for those with mobility problems, Pelican might be suitable. One of the three bedrooms is located on the ground floor. Although no wheelchair ramps are available, access to the villa entails just two small steps (3 and 5 inches respectively), so may not be a problem to wheelchair users. There is a similar low step onto the front balcony, from both the ground-floor bedroom and from the living area.

The villa is superbly equipped and kept to the very highest maintenance and decorative order. The house is so beautifully furnished that if I didn’t know differently, I would have guessed that the owner, Alison, was an interior decorator. The house lacks for nothing and will undoubtedly make a wonderful home, whether for a week or two or permanently.

I will describe each of the main rooms separately:

Master Bedroom

Master BedroomOffering 30m2 of floor area, the upstairs master bedroom is very spacious – an impression enhanced by the high 3.6m-high ceiling. With the window shutters and balcony door open, the room is also breezy and bright. A small 1.2x0.8m balcony offers views over the estate.

With windows on three sides, the 7.25 x 3.4m bedroom can be opened up to catch every last drop of breeze. You could sleep comfortably relying on natural breezes and the overhead ceiling fan. Mind you, the air conditioning unit is a modern, remotely-controlled split-unit and proved efficient and fairly quiet in operation. The a/c is also an ideal way of masking the early morning clatter of Tobago’s awful national bird, the Cocricos (Rufus-vented Chacalaca).

The master bedroom is furnished with a 76-inch king-size double bed with bedside tables, reading lamps, radio-alarm clock, a small desk unit and a comfortable armchair with matching footstool. There is 1.6 metres of wardrobe hanging space with a good supply of hangers, plus extensive under-eaves storage shelves.

The bathroom is relatively small at 2.9 x 1.9 metres but it is well finished andMaster Bedroom Bathroom more than adequate for its purpose. There is lots of storage space for toiletries on the washbasin vanity unit and even more in the vanity unit below. The walk-in shower is fully tiled and in good condition.

Other bathroom facilities included a wall-mounted hairdryer and a shaver socket. Although there is a large mirror above the bathroom sink, there are no full-length mirrors in any of the bedrooms – although there is one on the landing of the main staircase (exercise care and ensure that you do not step back while admiring your reflection).

Bedroom 2

Also located on the upper floor, the second bedroom is only slightly smaller than the master, measuring 4.9 x 3.6 metres and providing 23.2sq.m. of internal floor area, including the bathroom. It is equally well furnished and equipped.

The room is furnished with a 5´ Queen-size double bed with bedside tables, lamps and a radio-alarm clock. A very stylish wrought-iron (the dominant theme in the villa) armchair and footstool complete the furnishings of the room. The built-in wardrobe with hangers offers 1.2 metres of hanging space for clothing and a smaller wardrobe unit provides additional shelf storage space.

Second BedroomThe only source of natural light is the single French door leading onto a small 1m2 balcony. Nevertheless, the room is adequately bright and cheerful. It has a ceiling fan and is fully air-conditioned, but by leaving the balcony doors open and the single window in the bathroom, you would probably receive enough through-breeze to sleep without air-conditioning.

The bathroom is well-equipped with a shaver point, wall-mounted hair dryer, fully-tiled walk-in shower and lots of space for toiletries.

Bedroom 3

The third bedroom is located on the ground floor and is separated from the main living room by the utility area.

Measuring 4.8 x 3.9 metres and offering 24.5sq.m. of total space, this bedroom is furnished with two double beds separated by a bedside table, reading lamp and radio-clock alarm. A simple rattan cushioned armchair and glass-top wrought iron table help to maintain the uncluttered spacious feel of the room, despite it having two large beds.

The Heaven Villas all have a second front door located in a small annexe leading off the downstairs bedroom. ThisGround Floor Bedroom has no practical purpose in a rental villa, but the annexe is an ideal storage area for the party’s suitcases. It is also home to more than a metre of wardrobe space, with hangers.

This bedroom has French doors leading onto the main balcony and provides views over the Sanctuary development – sadly the house does not benefit from sea views. As with bedroom two, the third bedroom abuts the dividing wall to the adjacent half of the building, so does not have windows along the side aspect. Nevertheless, the room is light and bright and will benefit from lots of breeze when the French doors are left open.

The bathroom is the largest of the three, at 5.8 m2. It is equipped to the same high standard as the others, with shaver socket, wall-mounted hairdryer, walk-in fully-tiled shower and tons of toiletry storage space.
