Getting Around: Tobago TAXI FARES
A guide to Tobago official taxi fares
Official taxis operate to a fixed tariff. Always agree fares for any taxi journey in advance. Over the last year or two we have heard considerable comment about Tobago taxi drivers becoming increasingly greedy, ignoring the 'official' rates, treating visitors like 'dumb tourists' and charging London black-cab rates. Our advice is to shop around and stick with any decent driver that charges fairly.
As everywhere, the driver will expect a tip - 10% of the fare being normal. A tip of US$5 would be reasonable for the average 10-20 minute transfer from Crown Point, or US$2-3 for journeys within the immediate Crown Point area.
The following table shows the official rates (October 2003) for transfers from Crown Point airport. This list was issued by The Tobago Taxi Cab Co-op.Society (Tel: 639-6678). Copies of the current tariffs are displayed at the airport.
Taxi tours operate at a rate of US$25 per hour.
The list shows the price of one-way taxi fares from Crown Point to various locations (shown in black) and specific locations (shown in blue). These are daytime rates - expect to pay more at night. Don't be afraid to haggle if the price you are quoted is higher than indicated here.
