This is a really "Top of Tobago". The fantastic view, the birds, the nice cabanas - we feel like in paradis.
We enjoyed the pool, the barbecue and the other equipment from the villa. Also very important: The staff and the manager Hugh are very friendly and make your holiday very well. Not to forget: very good beds....
The price is very good for this quality, also for beach lovers - the beach is only really 7 minutes to walk and
also fantastic - enjoy the fruits garden of the villa- all
perfect.

Top O Tobago is a stunningly beautiful and well-maintained guest house set amid lush green forested hills, and only a few minutes walk away from Arnos Vale Beach. The rooms have a warm and welcoming feel, just like you are at home, and are equipped with anything that you need to have a pleasurable stay. The cabana that we stayed in has a lovely balcony surrounded by extensive local flora, which is an ideal spot for reading, sharing food, or conversing with friends. The staff are friendly and efficient, and always greet you with a big smile. The manager goes out of his way to accommodate the personal interests of his guests, and is plugged in to cultural and musical events happening on the island. The pool offers a refreshing break from the heat, morning, noon, or night, and is flanked by handmade mosaic tables, lounge chairs, and hummingbirds. For some peace and quiet, you can take a walk through the beautiful bamboo grove and meditation garden. If you are craving local fruit, the grounds include mango, orange papaya, banana and soursop trees - a tropical fruit salad! Our stay at Top O Tobago certainly made our visit to T & T exceptionally memorable. See you there!

We stayed here as part of a package of 3 places to stay. It is a fantastic location and we saw lots of birds here including parrots and parrotlets (under the eaves). However, if I ever went here again I would only go with a large group. We stayed in the house and for part of our stay an extended family with 3 noisy children stayed in the cabanas and took over the swimming pool from literally 7 in the morning to 7 at night. I even had to ask them to move once so that we could get into the house: they had placed the sunloungers against our door to shelter from the rain. The pool being so close to the house really invades your privacy if the other guest show no consideration: of course they are welcome to use the pool. You cannot shut out the noise because the house lets in the wind at all times it also lets in the noise.
Also, the second bedroom is cut off from the main house at night, which is rather unsettling.
I should have read your review better before I went because I was unaware of the laundry facilities (they were not pointed out to us) which I would have loved to have used.
And yes, you can get a good view of the sunrise from the back balcony: don't worry about not being awake in time the Chachalakas give a good early morning call!

During late March (2008), a total of 4 families took over Top O’ Tobago for 2 weeks. Our group included 8 adults and 7 kids (ranging in ages from 8 to 13 years). The layout and facilities were ideal because each family had their own space to relax, cook simple meals, and the kids could enjoy their own videos. We came together and arranged group lunches and dinners, games, and late night entertainment around the house cabin. Sharing the patio, pool and house cabin was ideal – much better than a hotel or other villas.
We really enjoyed the property for the gardens, orchards, views, and seclusion. An added bonus was the abundance of fresh oranges, which the kids turned into jugs of fresh juice (using the industrial sized juicer in the house cabin). The fresh limes were also perfect for the Gin & Tonics.
Hugh Baker (the property manager) made this a “5 star” vacation. He provided great advice on activities for kids and adults, arranged special tours, and even guided us on a few outings. While he was generous with his help, he was never intrusive and we had complete privacy unless we asked for his help.
A couple special memories for us included the following:
• Swimming with the turtles at Arnos Vale bay. We were able to spot one or two turtles during our snorkeling trips to this nearby bay, and captured some great underwater videos of them (and the other fish/coral). This was a highlight for the young kids who just started snorkeling. As mentioned in other reviews, I think the snorkeling at bay was best on the island.
• Hugh arranged for a local chef to cater dinner for us. This was so popular that we ended up having 3 dinners catered. The food was excellent, no clean-up, and lots of leftovers.
• Taking the kids on hikes around the area (Mot Mot Trail, Skyline trail, etc). Early morning hikes were an ideal way to start the day.
• A guided visit to the rainforest was better than expected. Hugh arranged to have William Trim provide the tour. He has a wealth of knowledge and stories on the animals, vegetation, and history.
• Body surfing, surfing lessons, sailing on the “Island Girl” and visiting all the other beaches around the island kept us busy in the water.
• The rooms were always clean, and no bugs. Congratulations to the cleaning and support staff.
In summary, the property was perfect for each family, but even better for sharing with our group. Hugh’s advice and support ensured that everyday was great. We needed the full two weeks to fully explore the island (one week wouldn’t be enough). We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this villa when visiting Tobago, and plan to return.

A bit like putting our holiday photos in an album I cannot believe it has taken us 5 months to post our review of the best place we've ever stayed in the carribean. Hugh I apologise for our tardiness - what an amazing place and what a wonderful host. Hugh is fantastic, nothing is ever too much trouble for him. The villa is beautiful and the grounds immaculate. My son loved getting up early to paint all the beautiful things surrounding us. I really hope we will be able to return we loved top o tobago, loved hugh and loved tobago!
