Top O'Tobago is a truly superb place to stay. It is located on a hillside overlooking the sea at Arnos Vale, with distant views along the coast to Buccoo Reef. It is a spectacular, architect designed private home, built as a group of buildings set in richly planted tropical gardens and woodland, with wonderful wildlife. The accommodation (cabana in our case) is superb, with excellent facilities. The central villa is also superb. The pool is quite magnificent, and 10 seconds walk from each of the 3 apartments - and directly next to the villa. Absolutely no issue as to shared use of the pool in our experience - the whole place accommodates only a small group of people even when full. Top O'Tobago is best described as a lovingly maintained private residence whose owners rent out when not there themselves. Hugh Baker, the brother of the Canadian owner,is in permanent residence as manager. He is a most delightful host, and a fund of information on every aspect of Tobago. He does everything possible to provide guests with exactly what they want. Essentially this is a sublimely peaceful, very beautiful place set deep in the unspoilt island, but a few minutes drive to beaches, and villages. Diving and snorkeling at Arnos Vale (2 mins) is amongst the best on the island. We unreservedly recommend this place, and aim to return. Many people do.

Just a very brief note on our recent stay [13-20th January 2007].

It's all been said before in the other messages on the forum and in the reviews, which in my view are all accurate, so I'll not repeat; except to say that we had a really wonderful time, and Kate and I thoroughly recommend the Top O'Tobago villa and cabanas. Please don't everyone book it solid for when we want to go back!

We stayed at Top O’Tobago for a week in November, 2006. The setting is delightful, the accommodations are immaculate and comfortable, and the hotel’s small size (only 5 rooms) means that the manager, Hugh, is almost your own private concierge.

The setting is on top of a hill, surrounded by trees. The bird watching is fantastic. We saw hummingbirds, woodpeckers, parrots, wrens, thrushes, frigates, etc. right on (or above) the property. The view of the ocean from the swimming pool is spectacular. For ocean swimming, it’s an easy 10-minute walk to Arnos Vale beach which, in our opinion, has some of the best snorkeling on the island. The fish are dazzling and the water is relatively calm.

We stayed in one of the three cabanas. Although it wasn’t air conditioned, the ceiling fan and the breeze kept it cool enough for sleeping. The kitchen is small but perfectly adequate and a table is provided in the garden at the back of the cabana for sit-down meals. There are also several excellent restaurants within easy driving distance.

Apart from the gorgeous setting, we found that the biggest bonus of staying at Top O’Tobago was Hugh, the manager. He was able to show us to beaches that were virtually deserted and that we would never have been able to find on our own. He was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and took us to a waterfall that not even some of the locals know how to get to. He was able to advise us about restaurants, shopping locales, driving directions, local customs, and things to see and do. It was like having our own very congenial and capable tour guide.

Another bonus at Top O'Tobago are Hugh's two German shepherds, Champ and Bandit. They are very friendly to guests but would be decidedly intimidating if anyone came on the property illegitimately. We felt completely safe, even to the point of sleeping with our door unlocked.

We would unreservedly recommend Top O’Tobago to anyone visiting the island.

We were looking for the ideal place to get married and couldn't decide ....we knew it had to be tobago but where?...about 2 weeks before our wedding still searching and debating we stumbelled into TOP O TOBAGO resort online..we still couldn't decide but we knew it was worth the trip to go and visit the resort before we made up our minds...and so we did...when we got there we had no doubt that we had found the perfect place and Mr. Baker welcomed us with open arms...it was sooooo natural and peaceful and filled with such vibrance ...it was all we needed for our wedding coz that's what we wanted something private, intimate and very warm and family like.

we had everything there....flowers..trees..birds...not to mention the sunset..one you would never see anyplace else like it is seen from TOP O TOBAGO.....our time there was sooooo well spent....it was more like a dream vacation with family and few friends...away from the ordinary stress that seems to come with a wedding and planning we really didn't have any of that..i think even Mr. Baker thought we were too calm...lol....but unlike so many other people i kno who jus wanted their wedding day to be over....i wanted my to last forever..TOTALLY STRESSS FREE....groom was there..bride was there...family was there..man it was all good...we really had a good time....

Mr. Baker...THANKS TO YOU CHAMP AND KAILASH(smile)...your service was excellent the place is surreal we loved every moment of it and we have sooooo many beautiful pics i will post a few later....but thank you...and to u all reading this....

Lovely stay and beautiful garden an house. We were very well taken care of by the manager Hugh and all staff!

Ask for the way to the small lovely beach just south of the main beach.

Tobago was nice even during the rain season, but the water was a bit unclear just after the rain.

The Atlantic coast was not at all as nice as the west coast where we stayed at Top of Tobago.
