Beach House - Reader Reports & Opinion

It was my first time in Tobago and in Castara. A friend of mine was there twice and the last time he stood at the Beach House.

I booked one week upstairs at the Coconut Height and one week downstairs.

Coconut Height: It is a very lovely, very clean, large thought out apartment. The balcony is so huge, I would assume it's over a half of the apartment. It feels like one huge room even the sleeping room, bathroom, shower and the clothes room are kind of separated. The view is breath taking, when it goes bright or when you watch the sunset and you just walk 30 seconds to swim in the Caribbean Sea. The apartment is mainly shadowy, what's in the view of the heat, very comfortable. But outside of the entry is a small terrace where you can make a barbecue or just take a sunbath in the early afternoon.

The whole very beautiful house is build from wood and love of the nature and the island. The area is very quiet if you don't mind to hear the sea 24/7 or the music from the boathouse or out of the cars from people who meets there. I didn't mind because I loved everything of it and I was on vacation. You can feed the birds and hummingbirds or the bats in the evening with sugar water.

You can see the fishermen going out in the morning and at the afternoon you can watch the sting rays close to the beach from the balcony when the fishermen throw the fish craps back into the sea.

The time when I was there the owner Carol and Graham were also there. Both are very loveable, in my opinion adorable, people which I enjoyed also very much. After three days I decided to stay upstairs and since Carol and Graham would have just moved upstairs when I were supposed to move downstairs it wasn't a problem to schedule it.

Since I was alone on vacation I felt very safe there. Sometimes I went to bed and realized the next morning that I left the key in the lock outside. I don't want to say that you should try it but just show how safe I felt. The residents of Castara are very nice too. I felt welcome the whole time and not just because I was a tourist.

My conclusion: I'd come back to Castara always and I'm recommending the Beach House to everyone who wants to learn to know the meaning of 'Welcome to paradise'.

We stayed in the beach house for 3 weeks combining Coconut heights upstairs with Breadfruit Grove studio downstairs for ourselves and our 2 children. It was perfect in all ways with its stunning location in this friendly and laid-back village. Porridge and Jeanell are friendly, helpful and a pleasure to meet. The house upstairs is well-equipped, spacious, comfortable and homely with views right onto the beach. The studio is also lovely but more compact and functional with a gate straight onto the beach. Both apartments have comfortable beds, outside showers to rinse off the sand, BBQ, hammocks, hot indoor showers and adequate cooking facilities to make a family meal. With the constant sound of the waves and the morning cockerels this is a beautiful spot to really get away from it all.

Having stayed in several other places in the village before we will return to the Beach House on our next trip to paradise.

We have recently arrived back from 10 blissful nights in the Beach House,

Castara. The accommodation had 2 verandas, one with a gas barbecue, outdoor shower and tap to get the sand from the amazing beach

off our feet.

The other veranda had a table and chairs,a beautiful view of the ocean and

an opportunity to view the wonderful bird life.

The apartment itself possessed everything you needed for a memorable

holiday, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and cooking facilities if you did not

want to try the local cuisine.

The position of the apartment is right on the beach and convenient for the

Boat House bar and restaurant.A few beers are important if you wish to sleep through the sound of the ocean.

Castara is a lovely 10 minutes walk with one or two bars and restaurants.

We loved the place and the Beach House would also be excellent for a group holiday, each apartment retaining it's privacy.

Thank you for everything,

Robert and Heather

Myself and a friend had an idyllic week staying at the Beach House. Many plus points include the fantastic location, the cleanliness, the bird and reptile life! The sound of the waves( can't understand why people object to this???), the excellent beds and mosquito nets.

Only downside was a general feeling of dampness- it was very hard to get clothes and soggy beach towels dry, even on the small washing line- perhaps cutting back some of the vegetation might help, with boh the view and the air circulation?

Will definitely be back!

It's now best part of a fortnight since we got back from Tobago and I have been sorting out our photos which has prompted me to write this report.

Coconut heights was just as we hoped and imagined - just out of this world!!

Everything worked out well - we kept bumping into Porridge and he was always very helpful. He sorted my fishing out with Anaconda. We had couple of trips out but mostly we stayed in the village and just enjoyed the life and the friendly nature of both villagers and tourists alike.

It was superb holiday and I am sure we will return.
