Castara is a dreamy little fishing village on the Caribbean coast of Tobago. It's the perfect place to forget about your demanding life and just relax with the sun and sea. Castara has two beautiful bays - Big Bay and Little Bay (also known as Heavenly Bay). The Big Bay has lifeguards on duty every day of the week. The water at Little Bay is shallower and perfect for supervised children. The unspoiled reef in Little Bay is great for snorkelling. At the other side of the village, there is a charming waterfall, reached by walking along the river-bed.
Tobago is a quiet tropical Caribbean paradise, where the sun caresses you and the green hills tumble to turquoise seas. Travellers come to Tobago to get away from it all and to relish the warm Caribbean climate and sea. Thought to be Daniel Defoe's inspiration for his famous novel Robinson Crusoe, Tobago delights visitors with unspoiled beaches, roaring waterfalls, ancient rain forest full of chattering birds and some of the best diving in the world.
Please note that while Castara is generally very quiet and tranquil, the Cottage is not remote or isolated, but situated on the edge of the village near the small roads that serve the area. Noise from the occasional passing heavy vehicle may be audible, particularly when staying in the Saffron apartment.

Excellent for Larger groups, couples and singles.
I've just been staying at Castara Cottage for the 6'th time, and it's about time I write a review for this wonderful accommodation. In the past I've traveled with friends and family in large groups, Castara Cottage is perfect for this, because there is 3 beautiful apartments, the upper ones connected if necessary.
This time traveling on my own, in between jobs, in need of peace and quietness, lovely surroundings, beautiful view, 30 seconds from 2 beaches.
Being on my own, without a car, I sometimes needed a little extra help, and the landlady, Carolyn and her daughter Jade, made my stay very special. They did everything to help. if I needed rocket salad, they suggested the right shop, organic tomatoes, well it was at my doorstep the morning after. Herbs, would be brought from there own garden.
There is a reason why we keep coming back to this beautiful accommodation, but this stay was special.
When you travel in large groups, you often dont meet new people. This time I had other tourists over for dinner, and everybody made comments about the nice atmosphere Castara Cottage has.
I thank Carolyn , Jade, and not least the owners Ann and Yvonne for a ( or 6) wonderful holidays!

We stayed for two weeks in Tamarind and it was our second time visiting Castara Cottage. We love the location and the open air feel of the cottage. Though basic, I think this is what we love most about Castara cottage. Being able to open the shutters in the morning, seeing the birds by day, fireflies by night and enjoying the warm Caribbean breeze creates that real feeling of being 'away' (being in a sterile air conditioned hotel just wouldn't be the same!). From the cottage you look directly across into a large mango tree giving the feel of being in a 'tree-house' (which is what the kids called the cottage) . We stayed with our 3 young children and spent the days meandering down to the beach, snorkelling, and meandering through Castara Village. Carolyn and her daughter, Jade, who manage the property were extremely attentive and periodically checked in with us to ensure we had everything we needed. Though the cottage is open air and bugs do exist (it is the tropics after all!) and an occasional bat would fly in and out in the evening, the place is clean, comfortable, and well kept. Wifi was incredibly fast and reliable (this might be a negative thing if you are trying to escape from work back home). We highly recommend Castara cottage for anyone desiring a true escape with a genuine Caribbean experience with or without children (our kids loved the place!).
