We stayed at the property grand view villa for 4 nights. We stayed in the top floor apartment, vet spacious with 2 large bedrooms, both with 2 double beds. Lots of storage space and a roomy lounge. The area outside for sitting on the balcony, watching the birds is stunning. No air conditioning so it can get a bit sticky- but 2 portable fans inside. We had a car which I'd recommend as its on a steep hill and would be a bit of a walk to the beach and back in the heat. We drove over and used the beach at blue waters in which is gorgeous and has nice snorkelling - I saw a turtle. For the price I think this excellent value accommodation with 5 star views.

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid-April 2015. The driveway is extremely steep!! We had an automatic hire car which just about made it up the hill, but another couple who were staying who had a manual gearbox were advised not to attempt to go up the drive because it would burn their clutch out!! You can park in the road at the bottom of the hill though.

The room is basic and clean, with a comfy bed, a sink, fridge, microwave, toaster, an electric hot plate with a kettle and some plates and cutlery. We ate out in the evenings, (10-15 mins walk downhill to Speyside restaurants), the kitchenette isn't really suitable for cooking up a feast!

The owners were on holiday when we stayed, so their son, Troy, greeted us when we arrived. Nice chap! We asked for the wi-fi code and he had to ring his parents to get it. We could only get signal down the other end of the balcony from our room, but that wasn't so bad - there are some seats overlooking the hillside you can perch on!

It was nice to have Newton George literally on our doorstep; we didn't realise he lived next door! We did a rainforest tour and a Little Tobago tour (Troy was the skipper!) with him which was excellent. The 'Hummingbird Gallery' on his veranda is also worth seeing - amazing to see the birds up close.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Top Ranking, it was good value for money and in a very peaceful and quiet location. Only small minor negative points - there's no mirror in the bathroom (!) and we had people staying in the room adjoining ours for one night and they were a bit noisy!

We were staying at Castara Retreats and had pre booked this B and B so decided to take a ride over to Speyside to just check it out . Not the easiest place to find . When we did find it we thought that the location up a number of steps was a bit too much for us with the baggage etc . It must be said that the view was stunning and that when I cancelled the proprietor was most gracious and wished us a pleasant stay on the island .

My overall experience with Top Ranking Hill View was good, but not great and there are certainly things to be aware of if you decide to stay there.

First, I communicated with the owners via email and found their responses back to me were very slow (a week at one point). Perhaps it is because the owners are informal in their operations, they also didn't take deposit or required me to sign anything when I "checked-in".

Second, it has been mentioned before, but be prepared when you arrive at the guest house to walk up an incredibly steep driveway. It really isn't suitable for those who are not in-shape or have health problems.

The rooms themselves are spacious, clean and have all the required amenities of simple, but comfortable guest house. While we couldn't see the sea very well from our balcony, the view of the area we did have was beautiful.

There's suppose to be shop on site, but it wasn't open when we were there. And the closest restaurants are a good 5 minutes drive away. But they were not issues for us.

We also took the glass bottom boat trip through Top Ranking. The sea unfortunately was quite rough, so the ride was on the short side and we didn't get to see Little Tobago. It would have been nice if we were informed of this prior to going out on the boat.

The owners of Top Ranking were nice enough, giving us bottled water and even papayas growing on their tree when my friend asked if she could take some home.

Considering the price of our accommodations, I think our experience was fair and I would recommend Top Ranking to other fellow travellers. Although I would be sure they knew what to expect prior to arrival.
