Our family of 5 adults had a great 2 weeks at Harris's Guest house. The guest house is situated 10 minutes from the airport (though there is no plane noise) and 20 minutes from Scarborough, overlooking lush pastureland with pedigree cattle grazing on it. The dawn chorus includes the Cocorico bird, as well as Harris's own characterful Parrot. Rooms were spacious , aircon, and with TV and ensuite facilities. There was a large kitchen/diner area we could all spread out in and cook fish fresh off the beach. The road was quiet apart from the occasional passing boombox. We thought the room prices compared VERY well with the costly local hotels, some of which are now rather rundown and half empty.
Harris is a most generous host and a well informed guide. Besides taking us on his Jungle tour he always suggested a great beach for the day, where to see the best Pan band (thats the Katzenjammers - world class!) and when to see the Leatherback turtles laying their eggs. Everyone on the island knows him, as he is also head of the local Lifeguard service. He has a great sense of fun and an unforgettable laugh. Tobago feels like a safe island but tourists have to be sensible wherever they go, and you will always be safe in Harris' company. You can also meet him on Trini Hill at the Notting Hill Carnival.
