We stayed in the two-bedroomed upper section of Charlottevilla end June/early July, 2007. We would stay there again if revisiting Charlotteville.

The villa is well located, about 50 yards outside the southern boundary of the village and 50 yards level walk from the beach. A nice feature is the balcony, which goes round the whole front of the property, both sides and half of the rear. From the front of the balcony, you can see Man of War bay through the trees, looking over the top of Man of War Cottages. From the rear, you look at the tropical rain forest, which climbs steeply directly from the back fence of the property, and where you can watch (and hear!) wild parrots arguing in the trees above you. There are occasional humming birds/colourful butterfiles etc to be seen in the garden, which is of decent size and gives some privacy and means that the property is set back some distance from the main road (important when we were there as the annual St Peter’s Fisherman’s Festival was taking place when, seemingly, the whole of Tobago descends on Charlottesville, determined to outdo each other with their music).

The balcony front and back is wide and a very pleasant sitting-out space. The villa itself, at least at our upper floor level, catches the breeze quite well and is cooler for that. There are extensive widows almost all round, which seem to be well designed to bring welcome breezes into the interior. Maybe for this reason, those members of our party who had been badly bitten by insects our previous week in Castara, didn't suffer to the same extent here. The roof overhangs substantially, to the extent that sun is kept away from the walls of the properly at all times, which helps to keep it cooler.

The property itself is roomy. The main room/kitchenette is roughly 20 foot square, and almost as high. It has a ceiling fan in the main room and both bedrooms have waist high pedestal fans.

Against all that, apart from an American-style upright fridge-freezer with a welcome ice-making facility the property is basic. The balcony could do with some loungers, rather than the straight-backed wooden chairs – there was some competition for the single hammock. It is also in need of some TLC. For example, it is fortunate that Charlotteville is quiet, because some of the window catches were missing and as there is no fixed safe deposit box security is almost non-existent. One of the main bedroom window panes was missing, making our anit-mozzi machine useless (although there was an efficient mozzi net). On one of the two bathrooms the door catch needs fixing - etc

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the report. We are looking at staying here in Feb. 2008. How did you make your deposit payment? I got an email from Jorg stating they do not take visa so did you have to have cash or did you use travellers checks?
