Our group was in dire need of a vacation. We researched countless properties in Tobago, looking for somewhere to relax, somewhere peaceful and beautiful where we could recharge our batteries without feeling too isolated from everyone else. The Mot Mot rental in Hidden Cottage was everything and more we could have wanted! Here is a breakdown of our experience:

Communication -

The owner, Selvin, was kind and helpful from the start. He answered all of our questions and provided very useful information about the area before we travelled, so we knew exactly what to expect and how to prepare. Kyle, the caretaker, ensured that the place was bright and clean upon arrival, and was able to advise us of all the local activities we might experience. Selvin even checked in with us during our stay to make sure all was well. We knew that we could contact either of them if we needed anything.

Location -

Hidden Cottage is built on a hill, but this isn't too steep to climb. It overlooks a small, lush valley of fruit trees and receives fresh, cool breezes day and night. Mot Mot itself is located on the ground floor, and the Hummingbird Apartment on the first floor. The Mot Mot bird for which the house was named will come visit you as you take your meals on the porch or the poolside. We were lucky enough to have a couple of them check in every day :)

The Village

Castara is truthfully such a lovely place to stay. There are quite a few local shops to visit (fruit is abundant, fairly cheap and so delicious), a waterfall located just beyond the football field, the fish market on evenings, T'keyah's Place for a drink or two, the Cascreole Bar and Beach Club for dinner, beautiful Castara Bay itself, beach bonfires at night... the list goes on and on. Everything is within walking distance from Hidden Cottage.

Amenities -

Mot Mot offers the works: air conditioned bedrooms, hot and cold water, free wifi and even a little pool which can comfortably hold 3-4 adults if used for simple relaxation. We came with two cars, and were able to park one just outside the cottage and another just overlooking the pool. The floors are polished wood in most places and although a few floorboards are slightly creaky, we thought this added to the charm of the place. The entire place was clean with an extremely friendly, comfortable feel. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with a coffee maker, toaster, stove, blender, fridge, cooking pots and many items of dinnerware. We made full use of them : ) There is no tv set, but honestly there was no need for one. The natural surroundings, village events and nearby attractions kept us more than entertained!

Our heartfelt thanks to Selvin and Kyle for helping us arrange what was truly a wonderful holiday. We can't wait to come back!
