We stayed for two weeks in Tamarind and it was our second time visiting Castara Cottage. We love the location and the open air feel of the cottage. Though basic, I think this is what we love most about Castara cottage. Being able to open the shutters in the morning, seeing the birds by day, fireflies by night and enjoying the warm Caribbean breeze creates that real feeling of being 'away' (being in a sterile air conditioned hotel just wouldn't be the same!). From the cottage you look directly across into a large mango tree giving the feel of being in a 'tree-house' (which is what the kids called the cottage) . We stayed with our 3 young children and spent the days meandering down to the beach, snorkelling, and meandering through Castara Village. Carolyn and her daughter, Jade, who manage the property were extremely attentive and periodically checked in with us to ensure we had everything we needed. Though the cottage is open air and bugs do exist (it is the tropics after all!) and an occasional bat would fly in and out in the evening, the place is clean, comfortable, and well kept. Wifi was incredibly fast and reliable (this might be a negative thing if you are trying to escape from work back home). We highly recommend Castara cottage for anyone desiring a true escape with a genuine Caribbean experience with or without children (our kids loved the place!).
