We stayed at the Mango Inn for 5 nights at the end of our two weeks in Tobago. If we had known how comfortable we were going to be here, we would definitely have stayed here for the whole two weeks!

The apartment was very spacious with two double beds, a good sized bathroom and a well-equipped kitchenette. The apartment had enough cupboard and storage space for us to unpack all of our things and live in comfort. The apartment is well maintained, very clean and everything was in excellent condition. All openings to the outside were covered in mesh wire, and the beds had mosquito nets, so mosquitos weren't a problem and we slept soundly. The area is very quiet apart from the orange-winged parrots and the Cocrico (Tobago's national bird) that woke us up in the morning with their calling!

The best feature of this apartment was by far the fabulous view over the village and the bay. It was perfect for just sitting on the veranda and enjoying the sights and sounds of Speyside.

Being amateur bird watchers, we were delighted that the lush garden, mature trees and bird-bath put out by the owners attracted so many birds and we were able to identify and photograph many birds from the comfort of our apartment. Species included the bananaquit, blue tanager, mot mot, golden-olive and red-crowned woodpeckers, tropical mockingbirds, various hummingbirds, house wrens, tropical kingbird, bare-eyed thrush, yelow-bellied elaenia, crested oropendola, the common black hawk and various others.

As for the location... The Mango Inn is built in a residential area of the village, on the opposite side of the village from where the "tourist strip" with the big hotels are (but still close enough to walk to the restarurants and bars). It is an easy 5-10 minute downhill walk to the beach and there is even a little private beach nearby which the hosts pointed out to us. The walk back is uphill but, unless you are extremely unfit, you hardly notice the strain because there are so many sights to take in that your mind is completely occupied by other things and you are home in no time.

The hosts, Reinhardt and Gabi went out of their way to make our stay there fantastic. They gave helpful advice on the area, the locals, tour operators etc. and they even cooked us a breadfruit just because we were curious about how it tasted! And compliments to the chef by the way, it was fantastic! They were also happy for us to help ourselves to the papaya, mango and herbs in their garden, and I have to say... we had a feast!

Overall, if we are lucky enough to return to Tobago one day, there is no doubt in my mind that we will book ourselves into the Mango Inn and just stay put!
