We have just stayed for 18 nights in Leapfrog and have had the most fantastic holiday. Do not apply if you are looking for pampered all inclusive style accommodation; This is something different!
But if you want a genuine Caribbean experience ( and we lived on Dominica for 6 months many years ago ), then this is the business. Castara is beautiful and in our experience has the best swimming on the island with a large colony of seabirds, so that you swim amongst diving pelicans and frigatebirds.
You shop in little local shops ( very limited choice but wonderful tropical fruit ), Hazel makes you fresh bread to order and you can go out fishing with Lookup and catch a weeks supply in a couple of hours. The food is very simple, the apartment is very simple ( for instance no ac ) but after a couple of days you slow down and start to notice stuff. Like the birds, lizards and other wildlife that surround you. Like the locals who are more in evidence up at Toad Hall than are the tourists, and who are very welcoming and courteous. The warmth and slowness seep into you, and the rum helps!
Steve and Rita are brilliant hosts, are part of the local community and are helpful in every way. Our wedding anniversary happened to fall during our stay, so they organised a party for neighbours and a few tourists and Lookup (their terrific helper) cooked up an amazing fish stew. A great evening!
I'm sure we will be back.
