We've just returned from two weeks at Mot Mot House and had a fantastic holiday. This review is intended to provide a 'customers' slant on the brochure descriptions and whilst it will be generally positive it will also identify areas that (in our opinion) need attention.

Overall Mot Mot is a great place to stay, ideally located close to Turtle Beach a good selection of restaurants and supermarkets are within easy reach by car (transport is an absolute necessity).

There were only two of us and we planned to use Mot Mot as a base early evening and then eat out mostly. Occasional days were spent at the house by the pool but we were usually we touring the island during the day. On this basis the house suited us perfectly, if you were planning to spend more time at the house with a large family and a few children then it may not work as well, read on.

The garden is large, well equipped and very well kept, it was a total pleasure sitting out early evening watching the birds come down to feed on scraps. The pool is plenty big enough with steps leading into the 4ft shallow end and then deepening to about 8ft at the other end. It's ideal for adults and teenagers but be very careful if you're taking toddlers, there's no paddling area in the pool.

There is a brick built BBQ which has no lighting so after dark BBQs are not possible, it needs knocking down and replacing with a modern gas unit.

Description states that a private path leads to Turtle Beach, this is misleading. The steep steps (not suitable for elderly folk) lead from the garden down to a road, turn left and after a three minute walk you arrive at Turtle Beach Hotel. If you have images of waves lapping at your garden gate then forget it but you can get to Turtle Beach easily enough.

Again the house itself is large and could accomodate 8 adults. There are three bath/shower rooms (two en-suite) and all of the four bedrooms have air conditioning which works (some units are old and noisy though). General state of repair is ok but a couple of the rooms could do with freshening up, there are plans to replace some of the AC units.

As regards facilities everything that is stated in the sales literature is present and functional if a little dated. The kitchen has everything you need and the adjoining living area is spacious enough with a dining table (six people) and seating for eight. This where Mot Mot falls down though, the kitchen/living area are combined with only a ceiling fan to circulate air, there's no AC so cooking gets very hot and uncomfortable. Sitting down for dinner is just as bad, you can open numerous doors & windows but then insects join you for dinner. We coped with the problem because there was only two of us but if the areas were segregated and AC installed then Mot Mot would be hugely improved and entirely suitable for self catering for larger parties.

Overall though Mot Mot is good value (in May) and great if you're not planning on serious self catering or spending lots of time watching TV in the living area.

I have just returned from a family holiday in Tobago (27th.Oct.07) We stayed at the Mot Mot Villa and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. I agree with most of the 2 previous posts but there is now a new gas BBQ and a new air conditioning unit has been fitted in the living room/kitchen area - but could not be used until new doors have been fitted. The only downside was the private steps down to the beach - yes the description did make it sound as though the sea was lapping at the bottom of the garden instead of being a good 15 minutes walk away. We abandoned the walk and took to the cars. The villa owners are very obliging - they arranged the rental of our cars and had them delivered to the villa. We were picked up at the airport and they provided a mobile phone for our use. The property manager was very helpful and was on call whenever we needed her. As a family of 6 adults a teenager and a 7 year old we found there was plenty of space and the villa was well equiped with all utensils, games - books and pool toys to keep us all amused for the few hours of the days when we were not out and about. The pool area and gardens were well looked after and I would not hesitate to recommend Mot Mot as a good value for money holiday home.
