Off the main road on the west coast of Tobago, Sandpebbles is near to a myriad of beaches and points of interest. One of the major attractions for me about this villa is the relatively secluded Stonehaven Bay which is a couple steps across the road from the villa. The beach boasts a long stretch of sand, green and blue clean waters which can be placid for those who splash in the shallows or have enough wave action to amuse body surfers, and heaps of black rocks on the far end inviting discovery of crabs and marine fauna. There is interesting snorkeling along the coast projectory which borders the right side of the beach overlooked by Fort Bennett. I've seen a ray, turtle, parrot fish and endless shoals describing graceful tornado shapes as well as a tiny cove and pebbled beach you can access through an underwater swim.

Fishermen work at this end, casting seine or hauling in fresh catch. A pleasant beach bar offers cool drinks or a simple lunch and the vacationers are usually quiet and few in number. I've sat on this beach and had the pleasant suprise of turtle hatchlings surging out of the sand and staggering on their way to the sea. Or the happy scene of a barefoot bride and groom with a tiny entourage making their way to an arch festooned with tropical blooms and a seaside ceremony! Sunset on this beach is ablaze with colours and no doubt perfect for photographs and memories.

Sandpebbles villa is a lovely spot to experience tranquil Tobago. Nestled between big brothers Hawksbill and Yellowbird, the well kept gardens frame the tropical villa from which you can still enjoy the riotous tropical forest. Each bedroom has its ensuite bathroom and the cool downstairs level is comfortably appointed for dining and lounging. A more than adequate kitchen and laundry facilities make these tasks easier. The secured perimeter, lighting, secure parking area are and a sentry present overnight gave us peace of mind at night.

One of the nicest areas is the large patio with am amoeba shaped pool. Steps make it easy to lounge in shallow waters and the deeper end is perfect for more serious soaking. The entire area is privacy screened with palms and trees and perfect for enjoying the water with the direct sun kept away by gently swaying green fronds. During our afternoon swim, the only sounds that could be heard were small birds and the waves breaking gently on the shore at Stonehaven.

If you can tear yourself away from the bay and the villa comforts, one of the best restaurants in Tobago, La Tartaruga is a couple minutes drive away. Golf can be enjoyed at Mt Irvine, and one of the better stocked groceries, Moorshead are all in the immediate vicinity. There are several lovely spots along the coastline for idle walks or swims.

Expect pleasant and helpful Liz to facilitate the booking including stocking you up with some food basics to start. A large bunch of fresh cut tropical flowers graced our dining room table in a simple welcoming touch. The gardening and housekeeping staff are quick, thorough and unobtrusive. A restful and re-energising experience in all!
