I recently stayed at Sol y Mar villa nestled in the hillside of Mt. Irvine with family members and had an extremely relaxing and enjoyable weekend stay. Stacy, the housekeeper, was very welcoming and friendly and gave us the guided tour of the expansive villa upon our arrival. Time had been taken to furnish the villa with Christmas decor, which added a nice seasonal flavor to the place. On the front north-easterly side of the villa you have a fantastic panoramic sea view, while towards the back on the southern side there is the backdrop of the lush tropical vegetation of the hillside. The place is private and is the perfect place to kick back and relax. The only noise you are likely to hear is a symphony of bird song. There is an abundance of birds in the vicinity. Bird feeders are strategically located around the villa. In the morning you can place bread and bits of fruit in feeders and then just sit back and watch the show as the various birds flock for their breakfast feast. The villa itself is extremely spacious with 5 bedrooms, two of which open out onto the patio and sea views. The master bedroom also faces seawards, but has no opening on to the patio, which I found a little strange. There is a large kitchen with all manner of cooking implements and utensils. The living room and dining area is also big enough to cater for a large-sized family or group. There is a large patio overlooking the pool and a gazebo. Of course, other details you will find on the relevant website. There are many places dotted in or around the villa to relocate to if one wants to take a private moment to read a book or just enjoy a little solitude. The pool is a good size, although very deep at the deep end, so you will need to keep an eye on your children. A short trek or drive down the road will lead you to the nearby beaches and some of the nearby restaurants. A magical place to forget about work and de-stress. Will return again in a heartbeat.
