We have just enjoyed a supremely relaxing holiday at the Ambassador's House. Tobago was experiencing a particularly hot end to the dry season but, up on the hilltop where the house is so beautifully situated, there were cooling breezes all the time. The house is well-designed, with sliding French windows that allow one to open up the rooms to the breezes during the day, and deep, and a deep, shady verandah surrounds the house. We very much enjoyed seeing all the wonderful bird-life in the garden, attracted by hummingbird and bird feeders. At night there were lots of bats - also attracted by the hummingbird feeders - and agoutis quietly browsing in the shadows.

The housekeeper, LesleyAnn, was a fund of useful, local information and also a first-rate cook, producing bountiful meals of curried chicken or shrimp, rice, plantain and vegetables. Nothing could be more relaxing than sitting with a drink, watching the sun go down, with the marvellous view from the house and knowing that supper is already cooked!

From the house we were able to drive to all parts of the island quite easily, visiting the rain forest, the cocoa plantation, Argyle Falls, Castara, and Englishman's Bay. We particularly enjoyed the goat racing and Easter bonnet parade at Mt Pleasant on Easter Monday. All in all, it was an excellent holiday and we all fell a little bit in love with the Ambassador's House, and would happily return.
