Restaurant prices In Tobago

Post by SuzyW »

We are here in Tobago for the third time. We first came in 2011, then 2014 and now 2017. The prices in restaurants in Crown Point seem to have risen a lot!!! We went to one restaurant last night Sat 16th and it was a nice meal bur the price was £100 for the two of us!!! We love it in Tobago but we seem to being priced out. Comments Steve Wooler and other members please!

Hi Suzy

In recent years, the Trinidadian central government has increased import taxes dramatically, trying to force people to buy local alternatives. This has hit Tobago particularly hard as the hotels and top restaurants import a very large part of their foodstuffs. Added to this is the situation with the ferry crossings (or lack thereof). This has given the opportunity for Trinidadian wholesalers and haulage companies to cash-in on the situation. Add to this the low value of the GBP and I'm afraid that the island is becoming increasingly expensive, particular for Brits. Such a crying shame. :(

Thanks for the explanation Steve, yes we have had very good restaurant meals in the past, but it won't stop us coming to Tobago just means we cook for ourselves now !!

Hi Suzy

You didn't mention which restaurant charged you that much. I honestly think that was well above the average, so it would be very useful to know which restaurant it was.

I have always found that lunches are not so bad, dinners are significantly more expensive and some places insist on doing a la carte whether you want all the courses or not.

So it's eat out for Lunch and an egg omelette (with extra egg) in the evenings for me

Hi there

The restaurant in question was Crafters they opened in March 2017. Lovely meal and drinks but the bill came to 790 TT.

Perhaps thats not a lot for some people but it seemed a lot to us OAP's !!!!

Will do what Paul Tallet suggests in future.

Hi Suzy

Yes, Paul is spot on. Anyway, we now list Crafter's but so far have had no votes. Perhaps I can persuade you to click on the Reader Satisfaction Rating (RSR) icon in their listing at https://www.mytobago.info/restaurants01.php and cast your own vote for this restaurant - and for any others you patronised during your visit.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve

We have found another newly opened eating place very near to ANR airport Crown Point. It is called Good Eats and the food and prices are very good. It is well worth a mention on the website. I have a printed menu if you want me to post it to you. Please let me know
