We have just returned from a fortnight stay at Essex Cottage, adjoining Gloucester Place with our two daughters, aged 17 and 18.

The Northside of the island offers peace and tranquility, combined with staggeringly beautiful scenery.

Your own transport is an absolute must to explore and enjoy what the island offers when staying here.

Our accommodation was more spacious than I had anticipated and the 'apartment' downstairs (twin bedroom with dressing area and ensuite) was perfect for our daughters.

The cottage is a hop, skip and a jump from the owner's home at Gloucester Place but we never felt that they intruded or were overbearing in any way.

They were kind enough to make arrangements for a spot of sea-fishing with a local fisherman, let us have use of their superb barbeque, wi-fi connection and phone, plus offered to do some personal washing for us in addition to all the sheets and towels.

We enjoyed their infinity pool (unheated) endlessly.

This is not the place to come for high-end fixtures and fittings, for fine dining or nightlife. Essex Cottage fulfilled our dreams of a perfect Tobagonian hide-away to lime, relax and chill.

Left for home with a heavy heart and a great yearning to return nearly a month after coming back home
