We stayed in Tamarind House in February 2010. We were a party of 5 - 3 generations – grandparents, parents and a 15 month old toddler.
The house which not only has an amazing location with spectacular views but also is extremely comfortable, was perfect for us. The villa is very well equipped with a spacious living area kept cool by fans.
We appreciated the air conditioning in the bedrooms.
However we spent much of our time on the large shaded terrace which is equipped with wooden chairs and a hammock. In addition there are sunbeds and garden chairs in the pool area. The pool, though not large, is, like the whole property, beautifully maintained.

After only a few days we felt part of the small community of Parlatuvier- everyone was so friendly and helpful.. Although there are no real restaurants in the village, good, local food can bought at the bar by the beach. This is cooked by Sharon the Tamarind House caretaker who will also cook for you at the house. (we used her service twice and the meals were delicious) We also bought excellent “roti” from Joanna who lives in a house on the shore and cooks in her home.
We would strongly recommend both Sharon’s and Joanna’s food.
However most days we catered for ourselves and bought fish from the fishermen on the shore and cooked it either on the BBQ or in the kitchen.
Fitzroy who looks after the gardens at Tamarind House came on our first morning to introduce himself and to offer his services as a Rainforest guide. He took us a guided walk in the forest and pointed out many birds, plants and insects which we would not have seen or been able to identify without him. He tailored the walk to our abilities.

However you do not need to leave the terrace of the house to observe many interesting birds. (eg Hummingbirds, bananaquits, grackles, tanagers and many others.) We were awoken each morning by the screeching of the parrots and chachalacas as well as the local cockerels! Other creatures which can be seen around the property are lizards and, at dawn and dusk bats flitter across the terrace.

We hired a car for part of our stay to visit other parts of the island but we also enjoyed exploring the village and the immediate area on foot and travelling by the local bus to Castara.

In summary if your idea of a perfect holiday is tranquillity, a beautiful location and a taste of rural life whilst enjoying the comforts of a luxury villa then Tamarind House is for you! Enjoy it as much as we all did!
