We stayed at the Bacolet Beach hotel in February 2011. It looks stunning and some aspects are good but some are certainly not 4*.
We had problems on our arrival and were initially put into their sister hotel, Half Moon Blue, as they said they were fully booked. We were not at all happy with the inferior accommodation and after asking them to find us another hotel the next day they miraculously found us a room. It was fine apart from a very strong smell of drains and torn see-through curtains.

The staff (with the exception of breakfast) were helpful and cheerful. There was a distinct lack of management which led to poor service and organisation at breakfast. The beach was never cleared and backed by old furnituer, wood and rubbish. We only saw the assitant manager in evidence twice, once when we complained and once when she came back to us. We never saw the manager.

Sun beds were never put out or cleared of the water and sand from the overnight rains. However, the Beach Bar was run by 2 delightful and helpful chaps and was probably the best part of the hotel.

Food in the evening was good and the service much better than the morning but it was overpriced (although not as expensive as most of the other restaurants on the island.)

We were unlucky enough to have bad weather for 7/10 days of our stay and this did colour our view of the island.

Hi Kari
I just wanted to say, in case you do not know, the beach is all public, it does not belong to the hotel at all, so thats is one reason for seeing wood a.s.o. on the beach.

The other reason for that is the fact that this beach is open against the sea, no reef or so, so what ever the waves bring in will land on the beach. And this area is well know for strong currents too, so no one should expect this beach to be cleaned by the hotell staff as they do not own the beach.

The hotel own the beach bar and their staff has always been friendly when I´ve been there, the sunchairs also own by the hotel, and if they are cleaned or not, that very much depend on the staff on the beach and if there are guests from the hotel every day.

Rain, yes we for sure have got "some showers" during these weeks! But the showers are also very different from each others, some might only cover a small part of Tobago some cover nearly all over. Maybe the rain season start early this year!
