This is what we've told our friends. What was great about it is that we felt that we were living in real Tobago rather than in a resort. We bet that when you make that first drive up to Moriah you'll wonder where on earth you're going to end up. And then you'll be shown the view, and the infinity pool, and it will take your breath away. And you'll realise that there are stunning, quiet beaches only 20 or so minutes away, and you're on the edge of a rainforest. And there are coconut trees the other side of the verandah and mangoes falling. Fruit will arrive on your balcony for breakfast. Parrots - yes! - may fly past. Get up early and listen to that dawn chorus.
The accommodation is excellent. We're parents with two teenage daughters, we're pretty well-travelled, we stayed for three weeks and we'd rate the comfort factor at Sundowner very highly. We enjoy cooking, and everything we needed was there. And there's reliable broadband, which we needed for work while on holiday.
What did we like best? Rastafiarian fishermen at Castara. Bread baked in a traditional oven at Castara. Pirate's Bay. Scarborough market. Tobago music. Sunday School at Buccoo. Nylon Pool. A day's sail on Island Girl. Local food at local food stalls. And that gorgeous Sundowner pool! Oh, and Sally the knock-kneed dog.
But the main advantage for us was the presence of Roger and Annie, who are extraordinarily kind and good fun, there with advice, sunblock, gin and tonics, mangoes in the morning and advice on the weather all through the day. And will go the extra mile to make your stay perfect.
Ok, we loved it.
