We stayed in this wonderful apartment from 18th to 25th November 2009 and it’s impossible to do it justice in only 2500 characters!

Firstly, the owners Roger and Annie are so welcoming that you feel as if you are staying with friends rather than in a rental. They provide invaluable local information and lots of laughs as well. We arrived late, but Annie had cooked us a delicious chicken pie. Security can be a problem in isolated rentals in Tobago, so it’s a real advantage to stay somewhere that is a proper home - plus the added benefit of three lovely dogs Polly Daisy and Sally (even though they are real softies and incredibly well behaved!)

The location of the house is amazing –you feel like you are living in a tree-house in the rain forest. It’s much more authentic Tobago because you are literally off the beaten track.

If you love birds and wildlife you will be in your element. We got up every morning at 5.00 am to watch the bats hand over to the birds and the dawn chorus begin. You’ll be serenaded by feisty little house wrens, chirping banaquits, tropical mockingbirds and very noisy chachalacas. The antshrikes with their punky hairdos were a favourite of ours, and there was a beautiful jacamar always on the same branch hunting butterflies. Lying in the infinity pool watching a humming bird drinking papaya flower nectar just inches from my face was another high! And there are red squirrels at the bottom of the garden.

It’s great to have all the amenities of a home-away-from-home, with washers and driers so you can launder your clothes after muddy rainforest treks and salty snorkelling trips. There’s everything you need in the kitchen, and it’s such a pleasure to sit on the verandah having supper under the stars.

You will need to rent a car here, but the location is really good for visiting all points of the island. Road signs can be in short supply (the locals all know where they’re going!) but people hang around at the crossroads and are happy to tell you the way. We recommend any of the boat trips, where you’ll be visited by dolphins and swim with the gentle manta rays. A trip to Speyside and the Little Tobago bird reserve is not to be missed where you will see red-billed tropic birds, brown boobys and ospreys. We hope to come back to Tobago really soon, and thank you Roger and Annie for a wonderful stay.
