day tour to Tobago(bucco/nylon) from Trindad

Post by Terry »

Looking for some feedback on the following:
We plan to do a day excursion to Tobago (by air).
What's the best place to start the tour to Bucco and Nylon?
How do we get there from the airport?
We have 2 young kids - 5 yrs old. Will the be able enjoy Nylon?
Is the water generally calm at bucco/nylon.
Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you. :?:

You can walk from the airport to Store Bay (about three blocks) and get on a glass bottom boat. You do not need a taxi to get to Store Bay even with the kids.

You will be met by many people offering trips. The Nylon pool is just a shallow sandy spot inside the reef where the boats stop for a swim. OK for all ages.

There are also many food vendors and stalls to get local food. You will walk past the crafts area as you near Store Bay.

Easy as pie.

Thanks Much Hugh.

Is it worth visiting Tobago for the day?

Any company you recommend for the tour to reef/nylon? What about the tour from Pigeon Point?

Assuming we get into Tobago around 11am and have to leave by about 5pm, how would you suggest we spend the day, keeping in mind we have the 2 kiddies.

Can we get a local taxi to show us around?

You can get the same reef trip beginning at Pigeon Point but would need a taxi to get to PP. That is not a bad idea because PP has everything you might need for a half day at the beach. It costs $18 TT ($3 US) per person to enter and then you could get back to the airport easily too.

To try to see the whole island in that short time could be hard for the kids who might be happier playing in the sand. Be sure to use lots of sunblock.

Even for that short amount of time it is still worth it.

Someone else can chime in with the name of a reputable taxi driver if you want to go that route. Or you can find them on this website.

PS. You are not missing much if you skip Scarborough completely. Save it for next time.

Always helpful to get tips for somone who has "been there, done that"!!

OK - Tobago definitely on our list, even if for a day. Airfares are pretty cheap.

How far is PP from the airport, taxi cost?

We will do Bucco/Nylon and if time permits take a local taxi to give us a short tour and head back to the airport.

Have you visited Trinidad? We will have 5 days there and have Pitch Lake, Caroni Bird Sant. and Maraca beach on our list. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again.

Terry,

depending on where you will be staying in Trinidad, you will experience travelling for hours in heavy traffic, as the
locations you mentioned may be pretty far away from your acommodation, and traffic in Trinidad is a mess.
Pitch Lake for instance is in La Brea, which is in South, Maracas Beach is on the north coast and Caroni in Central. Keeping your children in mind, i would rather not recommend to do more than what you have already on your list.
One spot comes to my mind for family excursions. Ask your tour guide for "La Vega Estate" in Grand Couva. It is a nature park with small fresh water lakes, Thelapia fishing, picknick sheds with BBQ facilities and a nursery with green houses etc. where you can see a lot of tropical plants. Many Trini families go there on a weekend but the place is open
everyday from 9am to 5pm. Check out http://www.lavegaestate.com

Enjoy your stay in T&T !

Greetings,

Andy

Thanks Andy.

My plan is to make p. lake, maraca, bird santuary..... each a day trip. this way we are not trying to rush around. I will have a car/driver. we have learnt - keep kids happy, and adults will be happy!!!

I will be in the St. Ann or Couva area(central). Have some local friends who will most likely escort us.

I will look into Las Vegas as well.

Cheers.
