Hello Stam

Welcome aboard our forum. :)

The Magdalena Grand Beach Resort is not yet officially open. However, it had a 'soft' opening on 15th December last and the formal opening will be in a few weeks time. We have just moved on after spending 8 nights there and a full review will be published on myTobago in late April or early May. We shall, at that time, be promoting the hotel to our 'Recommended' list of resorts on Tobago.

At this moment, there is still finishing work going on at the hotel. All the heavy construction is long since finished, but decorators are still finishing some of the rooms. Only about half the rooms are ready for guests at this time. However, you are totally unaware of the work and it does not intrude in any way.

It is clear that the hotel have put huge effort into training. The staff were, in general, brilliant. They were all, almost without exception, polite and friendly. That is rare in Tobago and only one other (very expensive) hotel can claim to offer good friendly service. Of course I'm talking about large resort hotels here - not small owner-run establishments where different rules apply.

The catering at the Magdalena was billiant and their fine dining restaurant will probably be acknowledged as the best restaurant on the island.

The only real downside to the Magdalena is the location. It is situated on a very windy stretch of Atlantic coast. Conditions vary and this is the time of year when the seas tend to be at their roughest, but few people would swim in the sea here. The hotel does offer an hourly complimentary shuttle service to Pigeon Point however. The upside of the windy conditions is that it feels a degree or two cooler than elsewhere (which is why most Tobagonians live on the Atlantic coast) and there is a total absence of mosquitoes, which can't navigate in windy conditions.

All in all, the Magdalena Grand is well worth considering - particularly at the moment when, I believe, they are offering some amazing bargains to get occupancy up.

Hello Steve,

me and my wife will go there in the end of april, probably you can recommend us some bars, cafes, restaurants and some activities, which can we done in the evening. What are the prices for alcoholic and non alkoholic drinks, which are typical dishes we have to try there?

I'm looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Stam

Please note that if you are staying at the Magdalena Grand, there are no restaurants, bars or other facilities within walking distance - and around unlit streets at night is not to be recommended (more from the dangers of being hit by traffic than anything else). If you aren't going to the hotel on an all-inclusive basis, then it will be vital to hire a car. Taxis are available, but would prove more expensive.

For guidance on restaurants, please see our Restaurants listings (http://www.myTobago.info/restaurants.php). Everything in Regions 6, 2 and 1 are within a 20-minute drive of the hotel. Our article at http://www.myTobago.info/cuisine.php will give you help on the cuisine and http://www.myTobago.info/nightlife.php on evening entertainment.

Eating out in Tobago is expensive. Budget the same as you would do for a holiday in Europe and you should be okay.
