My wife and I just returned yesterday from a five night stay at the Blue Haven Hotel. We had never been to Tobago previously, and had a difficult choice when making accomodation reservations prior to our arrival. However, we could not have been happier with the Blue Haven. Thanks to BWIA's behind schedule we were able to clear customs and make their last flight (9:15pm) to Tobago causing us to forfeit our 1-night layover stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Port of Spain. Therefore, now our new worry was arriving without a hotel reservation at 11:00 p.m. hoping for a vacancy. The Blue Haven's front desk staff and manager (Mr. Anderson) went out of their way to accomodate us, relieving our anxiety after a long day of travel. The room was not the same class as we booked for our stay beginning the following day, however, they assured us that they would move us with no problem, which they did in the morning. We were offered a drink upon our unexpected late arrival, and they also had the chef prepare us a sandwich since the restaurant had already closed for the evening. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The view was great all oceanview with a balcony. The property had a game room facility, private pool, access to Bacolet Beach with a beach bar and facilities, massage services, etc. All the staff were extremely nice, courteous and helpful. The front desk assisted us with diving arrangements and massages. We had our own rental car, therefore the location was good for us, being close to Store Bay and Crown Point (15 minute drive) and closer to Speyside (1 hour 15 minute drive). The waves, along the Atlantic side were noticeably stronger but not so much more to make a huge difference. The drive to Pigeon Point or Englishmen's Bay isn't bad for a better beach, but the beach at the Blue Haven was fine. The only downside was that the water was off for a short period one day for repairs, and the maid service failed to provide bath towels two days, but after calling, they were immediately delivered. The food was good, dinner better than breakfast. The wine list was complete. Since we were not on the dinner meal plan, we felt the dinner prices were a little high when compared to local restaurants outside the hotel. The hotel is exactly as promised, a fine property refurbished from ruin to rejoin its luxurious past with movie star prominence. We loved it and would definitely return if in Tobago again.
