Nestled on the shore of the beautiful Bateaux Bay, the Blue Waters Inn occupies an enviable location. We arrived after a twisting taxi ride from the airport just as the sun was setting and enjoyed our complimentary rum punch for an idyllic start.
The hotel has a combination of about 35 rooms and a few bungalows arranged neatly along the bay. From our room the veranda overlooked the bay towards Goat Island and Little Tobago. A visit to Little Tobago on a guided Glass Bottom Boat tour is essential. The guides are well informed with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all the fish and birds, the many names of which you sadly often forget!! Nevertheless the visit is unforgetable.
During our stay we were also fortunate to meet Andy Orr at the hotel reception. We took advantage of a conducted tour of parts of the island we otherwise would have missed or by-passed. He too had a vast knowledge of the abundant bird life and his ability to spot at an instant on the move was truly expert. We had 2 tremendous tours with Andy and can recommend him wholeheartedly.
The only reservation we had was with the food on offer at the hotel, and being quite a walk from the nearest village of Speyside we did use the restaurent most days. Apart from the fish that was bought daily from the local fishermen, there was little regional food - we would have liked to be able to sample the more traditional from a more imaginative menu. Sadly, it also rained most days that we were there, but that did not dampen an enjoyable break.
