Have just returned from a fabulous 10 nights here. It was far beyond our expectations. We had Room 25 which had recently been refurbished, of course we could be really picky and wonder why they painting stopped half way across a coving above the air con or that the mirror wasn't fixed up but did it matter- NO!
The room overlooked the sea, actually it was better than that as the sea gently breaking on the beach below the hotel was the background noise in the quiet of the evenings and in the mornings as the day started.
1 minute after getting up it was possible to be snorkling in the warm clear water, being amazed by the fish life, right out side of the hotel.
The rooms were fine and clean, nothing special but great to have plenty of room to shower and change, lots of space on the sun terrace to spread out wet towels and snorkling bits and pieces.
When it wasn't cloudy there were some lovely sunsets, the pelicans, laughing gulls and magnificent frigate birds gliding over the ocean made it a fabulous view.
The food was very well cooked, Anil, the Chef would come out most evenings and explain what he was going to cook, just to make sure you would be happy with the result, he also came out later to check that everything was as expected. He used locally sourced good fresh food. Fish was freshly caught and prepared, and delicious.
Breakfasts changed when we were there, there was an extensive buffet for the first part of the holiday but at the end this was limited to fresh fruit, coffee, toast and drinks and then each guest was asked by a very helpful waiter Anil (the younger) what you would like to eat, this was cooked for you.
The drinks were created by Antonio behind the bar and he had a skill with Rum Punches that is amazing!
The UK pound exchange rate was not good during the trip and so we found the cost of pretty much everything to be high, certainly more expensive than the UK.
By comparison to the other hotels and guest houses we looked at we were very happy with our choice and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who wanted a relaxing beach holiday.
Just leave the hotel stroll down the shoreline towards Pigeon Point- no charges for going there along the shoreline and on a pure white isolated reef fringed beach, under coconut palms ...relax, swim, snorkle and enjoy!
If there was any drawback it was from the jet ski operators who found it necessary to go as fast as they could wherever there was water, it made snorkling interesting to have the possibility of being hit at speed by a jet ski, I decided to wear brightly coloured tee shirts when I went in hoping that I might be spotted and avoided!
Also it was the end of the Carnival when we arrived - now that is a crazy time but all the debris from the wild partying was cleared up very quickly.
Had a dive with Scuba Safari- Johnny is the owner, again a really good experience. Saw stingray, leopard ray. when snorkling saw a turtle and another stingray and loads of incredible fish.
Hired a car from Sheppy's Auto Rental it worked out to be about £50 a day with all insurance cover I could get- crazy roads and crazy drivers on the island! Travelled to the Argyle Falls, a guided forest walk (quite expensive) one of the best experiences apart from underwater was to stop in the forest reserve and just wait for the birds to come to close to you, amazing.
Don't miss Engishman's Bay if you are driving around, our the really friendly Charlotteville.
The natural island is beautiful, most of the man made built bits almost look temporary, all the people we met were very friendy.
One final warning, at the airport there is only one security check point and with typical Tobago efficiency there are usually two flights booked to go at nearly the same time- so allow for at least an hour in the line!
Had a great time at The Conrado Beach Resort and would certainly recommend it as a place where you can experience The Caribbean and get a real feel for Tobago. We would certainly go again, in fact we are saving up already!
