The press release from the German embassy states:
German Ambassador names Tobago Resident Patrick Dankou as Person of Trust of the German Embassy
After spending four days of vacation in Tobago with his wife over the New Year, the German Ambassador, Dr. Ernst Martens, met with officials at Scarborough on 4 and 5 January. In meetings with the Secretary of the Division of Tourism and Transportation, Assemblyman Mr. Oswald Williams, the Director of Tourism and Transportation, Mr. Warren A. Solomon, as well as the President of the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association, Mrs. Carolann Birchwood and Mr. Christopher James, the promotion and support of tourism in Tobago was discussed. The talks concentrated on increasing the number of German visitors to the island. With a view of attracting international tourists, measures to improve and upgrade hotels and tourism facilities in Tobago, including the protection of its impressive nature and coral reefs as well as the security situation and the fight against crime were discussed. The need to effectively combat crime was also in the centre of the Ambassador’s talks with Senior Superintendent Mr. John Millet and Police Inspector Mr. William Nurse. They informed him about the fight against crime in Tobago as well as the state of the criminal investigation and proceedings in the case of two recent murders of German nationals in Tobago, Ms. Claudia Feldmeier, and Mr. Peter Taut.
The Ambassador used the opportunity to introduce Mr. Patrick Dankou as Person of Trust of the German Embassy in Tobago. Mr. Dankou participated in all meetings. A German national, Mr. Dankou first came to Tobago in 1989 as a visitor. Like many before him, he fell in love with the island and has been permanently living in Tobago since the year 2000. Mr. Dankou is the owner and General Manager of Yes Tourism Ltd., as well as of the Bamboo Walk Hotel and its Surf ‘n’ Turf Restaurant and Bar, all located on Old Milford Road. As Person of Trust of the German Embassy Mr. Dankou will act as a go-between and help liaise with the Embassy.
Its Embassy in Port of Spain is Germany’s largest considering the number of countries covered, ten independent states plus three dependent territories. Although the Ambassador thus has to travel often to other Caribbean islands, he regularly spends his private vacations in Tobago. For him and his wife the beautiful island of Tobago is the favourite vacation destination.
