Sammy,

in order for your marriage certificate, which you received from the pastor / priest / marriage officer in Tobago, to be
accepted internationally, you must apply for an "Apostille". You will get this apostille, which is a big stamp on the back side of the marriage certificate, at the ministry of legal affairs.
Better to say, you should have gotten it while you were still in Tobago.

Check and contact

Any further certified copies of this document may be done at authorities in your country.

Regards,

Andy

Hi Sammy,
If you have a copy of the certificate with you, you can deposit the copy of your certificate with the General Registrars office in the UK, you can then get certified copies from there. For more information see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentc ... /DG_175716.
If you have lost your copy and you know who married you they would be the ones to contact. Or if you married at a hotel or resort they may be able to help.

Failing that we (or anyone on your behalf) can obtain a copy from the Registrar's office in Scarborough for you given the correct information - your names, Type of marriage (civil, Hindu, Muslim) and date the marriage took place. (The person collecting the copies will need a valid form of ID) Two certified copies currently cost around TT$37.50

Thanks for your help. I looked into registering our certificate here but was unable to do this as I was told Tobago is a commonwealth country. I would be very grateful if you could get me some copies on my behalf. Could you please let me know how to start the ball rolling.

Hi Sammy

I'm sorry, indeed in double checking the site I see that marriage and civil partnership are two different things.
You can emails the details above, both names, type of marriage and date of marriage to mailto:[email protected] or contact me via the website
