BACK HOME AGAIN

Well we're back home after our second visit to lovely Tobago. Here are some details of our trip; sorry if I go on a bit but hope that some of the information is interesting and useful to fellow forum members.
Despite the weather not being what we had expected (based on the wall to wall sunshine we had same two weeks last year) we still had a wonderful time. Also, whilst there was a lot of rain and cloud we also had a good deal of sunshine and managed a number of very pleasant hours around the hotel pool, and down at Pigeon Point (the beach before the jetty and craft shops is best as you get the beach almost to yourself!) We even got a good tan and Alan caught a good few barracuda and snapper from the beach (so he was happy)!
We stayed at Kariwak Village which was wonderful (I have posted a review in "Accommodation") and we can fully recommend it if your looking for beautiful surroundings, excellent service and the tastiest food possible.
Once again we found everyone so friendly and kind. A hello and smile is always returned with the same and we were greeted as long lost friends by locals we had met last year. We bumped into Daryl on the beach (Daryl's Tours) who last year we enjoyed a wonderful coastal boat trip with (sadly weather conditions prevented a return trip this year). We also hired our car from the efficient Sheppey again and what a lovely man he is (and his staff are so friendly and helpful too). Also must mention Troy who works at Toucan Inn/Bonkers who must be one of the loveliest people we have ever had the pleasure to be aquainted with!
In addition to eating at Kariwak we also enjoyed meals at other restaurants including delicious tapas at Salsa Kitchen (Ian and Paula, we loved your place and the terrace and the fairy lights) and a couple of visits to La Cantina which definetely does serve the best pizza's ever. Also, enjoyed popping to the airport to partake in delicous Doubles from Kenny and his roadside stall. We also had some tasty food from Chef B-B-Q, but don't expect smiles with your service there - one of the very few places where the staff are not welcoming. Also, sampled some buss-up-shut and rice and dhall and shrimp from Trinibago (upstairs to the Anglers Bar on Pigeon Point Road) which was delicious and very very friendly.
On some evenings we enjoyed a drink at the Crown Point Hotel which has a nice poolside bar with seaviews and beautiful sunsets. Also a good place to go during the day when the showers set-in as part of the seating area is undercover but still open to the views. Nice and relaxing with a good book!
We drove around the island in our hired jeep (through periods of rains, showers and a little sun) and particularly enjoyed the road from Charlotteville down the carribean Northside Road. The road was amazing and we watched parrots flying across the jungle - magic. We also had an ad-hoc visit to the Genisis Nature Park at Goodwood (Atlantic Road) and met the lovely Michael who gave us a personal tour of his eclectic gardens, animals, birds and artwork. Thank you Michael!
Sadly, there were even less tourists this year than last and it is clear that the recession and unfair reports of crime etc are taking its toll on Tobago. We spoke to several Tobogonians who all said that the TT government need to do so much more to promote Tobago as a holiday destination and we cannot agree more - just when did you see any adverts back home in the UK for this beautiful caribbean island?
All in all another excellent holiday on this tropical paradise. We told ourselves that there is a big world out there to explore and maybe next year we should try somewhere else. However, since getting home last Thursday we are starting to re-think. How could we not go back again?? If your due to go soon and haven't been before, then your in for a treat!
