We will spend two weeks in Tobago from December 21 to January 5, staying in Charlotteville at Cholson. Does anyone know of any festivals/events in Charlotteville (or the rest of the island) we should not miss during our stay? Any ideas of a good place to spend Christmas Eve / Christmas Day (if we don't cook dinner ourselves in the apartment)? : ) Lene, Atle & Jonas (Norway)

Hello Lene

Welcome aboard! :)

I don't have personal experience of Tobago at Christmas, but I noticed a post reply last night from "our man in Charlotteville", Phil Bondie, so hopefully he's checking the forum regularly and can give you some tips.

Hey,
myself and my wife who was three months pregnant stayed in Charlotteville for Christmas last year. It was a very quiet affair and not much happened in the village although that's exactly the reason we were up there. We relaxed on Pirate's Bay on Christmas Day hoping to catch Santa resting with his reindeers but no chance  The village was very chilled with the usual festive music blaring from people's houses and a few bars were actually open. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Lene,

Tobago is usually very quiet around Christmas time. You will find the bigger hotel restarants offering Christmas eve
and Christmas day dinner / lunch though.
From Charlotteville you may have to take a drive to the south western part of the island to find those places
open.
It could be worth trying to talk to Gail (Gail's restaurant) in Charlotteville, if she is willing to cook for Christmas.

Boxing day (Dec 26th) usually offers some late night parties at beach locations. It is too early though to predict,
who will organize what and where. You will have to investigate upon your arrival.

Cheers

Andy

Thank you for the comments! We are so much looking forward to visiting Tobago for the first time! If eating somewhere else than Charlotteville just for Christmas + Christmas Day - could any of you recommend a charming place to eat elsewhere on the island? : ) lene

The Boathouse at Heavenly Bay Castara does a superb Christmas Lunch. Its about a 40 minute drive from C'vill on the north side coast road.
