Tourists assaulted again

Post by Robert T »

This was the third one already this year. We were on the island when this happened. Sad to see and hear that things are really getting out of control.

The article is not very clear if both attacks were on the main Grafton Beach or Black Rock but the latter is a well known hotspot for robberies although sexual assaults are rare.

Arnos Vale has become a hotspot since the Hotel closed down and most reports of attacks relate to the footpath leading to the beach from the main road.

There is information about security in the myTobago website but I would add that the number of cases like this are lower than most other destinations around the world. Some may argue against this with statistical data but Tobago's crime statistics are made worse where they include Trinidad's crime rate.

Robert's post has made me realise that I saw no police on the road or on walkabouts during my last 4 week stay … I have forgotten what they look like. Increasing the police presence would help I am sure.
