Hello and query about getting lifts in cars

Hi,

We are off to tab next Jan, having visited there 5 years ago. When we last stayed, we used to put our hands out when cars went by, and if available, the car would stop and we would travel with the locals around to our destination. We did this both to and from sunday school, and to Scarborough.

Reading through the forums prior to registering, I get the impression that Tab seems not to be as 'safe' as it once was. SO i guess the qusetion I am getting to is whether the car flagging down is still safe, or whether we should now be getting the taxi's to and from places?

Also, does anyone know if trail dogs are still about - I emailed them a week ago, and have not heard back from them yet.

thanks in advance

Alex

Hello Alex

Welcome aboard!

Using Route taxis is still the most common way of travelling around Tobago and still perfectly safe for visitors, IMHO. However, as we have always advised, use common sense and NEVER get in a cal with a 'P' (private) registration plate - i.e. only use H-plated taxis.

I haven't heard anything about Terrence Baynes of TrailDogz so hope he is still operational. The only email address I've got for him is [email protected]. Knowing how unreliable the local ISP is, I would suggest sending him another copy of your original mail. Please let me know if you don't hear from him or if anybody else has any more up-to-date information.

Hi Steve,

Thanks fot the rapid response! We are really looking forward to being back again.

For info if anyone else is planning on travelling over in Jan 07, xl.com are selling return tix for 250gbp at the moment - a pretty good deal I thought.
