Just spent a night at the Toucan Inn. It is an excellent place to fall into after a long flight but not the sort of place I would stay for a whole trip.
The staff were friendly, the pool inviting and the bar pleasant for a beer.
Sleep off the jetlag and then move to Speyside!
Toucan Inn Feb 2004
Gary Don't worry, I have spent several nights at the Toucan Inn and its a great place to stay the owners are two guys from Bath in the UK and everything is very tastefull and well run there is a great restaurant on site and its just a short walk to pidgeon point and all the attractions.
definately a place I would go back too.

Agreed! It certainly depends somewhat on what you place your priorities on, but I would have no hesitation in recommending the Toucan Inn for a longer stay. We loved it for the 2 days we ourselves spent before heading to Speyside. We would happily have stayed longer, even if it meant cutting into our subsequent 8 nights at the Blue Waters Inn.lisel wrote:definately a place I would go back too.

Toucan Inn & Airport Work Noise
Hi,
Can anyone advise me?
I will be booking a holiday this weekend to Tobago, 2 weeks in May. My choice of accommodation (due to price restrictions) is Toucan Inn. I have read a lot of good reviews about it.
My only concern is the holiday company I am booking with, Tropical Places, state that the airport is having an extension built and most of the work will be done during the night to avoid disruption. Are they hinting that there will be noise?
I believe the Toucan Inn is close to the airport, can anyone tell me how close?
Has anyone stayed there recently? If so, did you encounter any noise from the airport work?
If anyone would like to recommend other accommodation in the same price band please do so.
Thanks.
Hayley

Hi Hayley
To be honest, its anybodies guess. Yes, the work is supposed to be happening at night, while there are no flights, but I’m guessing that we’re talking pretty small-scale – not Heathrow Terminal 5. Don’t hold me to it, but I suspect you won’t find it a problem. In fact, knowing Tobago, you’ll probably wonder WHAT work they’re talking about.
The Toucan Inn is probably a good choice, other than its relative proximity to the airport. Sadly, this also applies to a number of other hotels. Personally, I would stick with your choice but simply email [email protected] the hotel and ask them for their take on the situation. I’m sure they will give you an honest answer – in so much as its possible to predict.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your advice. I did send the e-mail as soon as you replied but I have not yet had a reply from them.
As I wanted to book the holiday this weekend I decided to take a chance. I have booked with Tropical Places and I consider it was a good deal, £525 pp for 14 nights B&B (it was cheaper booking online via their website).
I will be reading previous posts on this fantastic site to find as much info as I can before travelling to Tobago i.e. recommended places to visit and eat.
Thanks again.

Hi Hayley,
Can I just say I am raging!! We booked our honeymoon through Tropical places in Ireland, and I know the exchange rate is bad and everything, but if you got 2 weeks B+B for just over £500 per person, can anyone explain how we paid €1200 per person?!?!?! Even taking the exchange rate as 50p to the Euro(and it is currently 67/68p to the euro) that is £600 per person!!!
Not to worry its paid for now! When are ye there Hayley? We are there from the 4th to the 18th... we can't wait!!

Hi Joe,
Sorry to have upset you. I had the Tropical Places brochure which listed the higher prices. When I went online to book I was surprised to find the prices were cheaper and you also get a £50 discount (per booking) for booking online.
We fly out on 8th May and return on 22nd. I'm sure we'll see you there, perhaps we could meet up for a drink?
We can't wait either... Tobago here we come!!

Well the place is meant to be quite small so I'm sure we will bump into each other. A couple of exotic cocktails together sounds very tempting, We really enjoy meeting other couples when we are on holidays, twos company is all very well for the majority of the time but it is nice to socialise too!!
We will try to keep in touch before the big trip.

Hi All
Although the official "sod-turning" ceremony took place a couple of weeks ago, there was no work going on when I was last at the aiport on Monday.
As for noise affecting the Toucan Inn area, this seems unlikely as the works will be taking place where Auto-Rentals is situated now, I understand, the far side of the terminal building from the hotel area. Plus it is a few hundred yards away anyway.
Far more likely to disturb guests is the general ambient noise of Tobago/Crown Point - music, passing car stereos, dogs, cocks and Cocrico. This is all part of the fun, and Tobago is still quieter than cities/resorts around the globe.
Regards

am going on a holiday to tobago
hi can anyone advise me? i am booking a holiday to tobago for sep 2005 but from everyone i know all i keep getting told is its full of murderers and black magic and thieves?! as you can understand i am concerned as we will be two women travelling alone! am i going to be safe and be able to explore my surroundings at ease? and also is toucan inn nice coz ive been told if it says on a budget then its a shack!! i do not beleive this as ive read so many positive things but understandably i want to make sure. any info anyone could give me will be much appriciated and make me less nervous and more excited about my holiday!!
nicolas inquiry about the toucan inn
my wife and i returned from Tobago Dec. 9/04 (yesterday) after a 9 day stay. We were there 25 years ago and found the change amazing. as far as the toucan inn we had dinner there last tuesday at Bonkers which is their restauruant bar, and fully enjoyed it. while we didn't see in a room the overall impression was good the pool while small is quite nice. but most people go for the beach anyway. pidgeon point beach is still the nicest beach there, while it cost $3 per day or $10 for 7 days it is worth it for the facilities alone, too bad the ocean is littered with sharp coral which makes foot covering a good idea. that is only for the first couple of yards then it is a beautiful sandy bottom with calm water (heaven). as far as security, like all islands single women will attract attention but if one uses their judgement, there should be no danger. my wife and I were all over the island during this trip and her apprehension soon disappeared. the security problems there seem to be petty theft and burglary,so one does not go to a deserted beach. getting to the beach is a bit of a hike from the toucan there are many beaches close within 15 or 20 minute walk from the hotel but pidgeon point would be a healthy 45 to 60 minute hike
