2 weeks at the Toucan Inn in May/June 2004 - Review

Well then, after months of only "taking" from this extraordinary homepage, it is time to "give" something. So here is a review of 2 weeks at the Toucan Inn:

The Toucan Inn is very close to the airport: 5 minutes to walk, 1 minute to drive. This didn´t affect our holiday, though. There are only 5 or 6 big aircraft per week (quite a few smaller ones), none at nighttime, and they can hardly be heard. So, although the Inn is in the heart of Crown Point: really quiet - and nice settling in well-kept tropical gardens.

The Toucan Inn offers both so-called "pool rooms" and "garden rooms". We had asked for a quiet room in advance and thus were given a garden room. This proved to be a good decision, as the pool rooms are - surprise - directly next to the pool which might disturb you in the evening as the restaurant is only some steps away, including eveningly entertainment some nights (which never took longer than until 10 pm). The pool rooms are even smaller than the garden rooms, and there were some couples who asked for a garden room after having been put into a pool room.
Back to the garden room: well-sized, very clean, effective aircon (if a little loud), all in all maybe a little spartanic (which didn´t affect us at all; still feeling very well :D
The only thing a little annoying was that if our neighbours next door were using their shower, the waterpipeline (correct term?) produced a sound like 50 people wiping out their birthday cake candles: ppphhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
As I said: the ONLY annoying thing!
Room service was discrete and effective.

Staff: Very friendly and helpful. The ladies at the reception: For example, when my wife was feeling sick for some days, they were extremely helpful and caring - we felt in very good hands (thanx again!).
The staff at the restaurant were friendly and quick - well, two exceptions: Two ladies seemed to suffer constant bad mood and we were often treated with what appeared to be indifference. They were not rude though, and maybe they had some trouble at home - they were just different from the rest of the gang (big hello to the "bachelor").

Food: Yum! We ate out at many occasions, but still found ourselves at Bonkers at 4 or 5 nights. Every single meal was excellent, be it lamb, fish, chicken - whatever. Kiss the cook!
Still, the prices are moderate: prices for dinner range from about 60 TT $ until 100 TT $ (8 - 13 €) - not more than at home.
Drinks were cheap, even the cocktails (20 - 30 TT $) - which was good because they are delicious (Pineapple Daiquiri!!!)
Breakfast was tasty as well, although a little repeating (but then, my breakfast at home is nearly the same every day.) You can choose out of some options (no buffet) like fruit plate, pancake with sirup, fully cooked (ham and eggs, beans) - it was always a good start for a hot day!

Did I forget something? Maybe the resumé: What a nice little place with friendly people (both staff and guests), clean rooms and great food. We had a good time and can definitely recommend the Toucan Inn / Bonkers!
:D :D :D 8)
