Me and my wife have just returned from 2 weeks holidays in Tobago. We have started in Charloteville. The town is small and very non-touristic, in the positive sense. We have enjoyed immensely the quiet and peace of tranquil surroundings. There is really not much to be done there but to relax and have your European pace catch up with locals.

We have stayed at Top River Pearl, also due to reports we have found on this site. Mr. Rainer, the owner, was up to our expectations. He has replied to each of our numerous emails. His appartements are spacious (we have stayed at ground appartement for 2 persons), adequatelly equipped also for self-catering. There are only fan however the temperature in the evening was OK. Only annoyance were mosquitos although not in a quantities we have encountered in other part of the world we have travelled. A mosquito net on the windows would improve the situation. The balcony was a big plus, with nice views over the village and the bay. You can have breakfast in adjoining Cappucino Bar in the morning or milk shake in the afternoon. The appartement was clean and up to the European standards so we are confident to reccomend it to everzone who is seeking a really tranquil place to start his Carribean vacations.

As the village is small, everything is in walking distance. There are several small shops, local eateries have fresh food (fish and chicken) and reasonable prices. Pirate Bay is where you should go to the beach for swimming and sunbathing.
