Travel to Venezuela from Tobago

Post by Jojo »

I am planning a trip to Tobago in early August and was also hoping to go to Venezuela for a bit. I see that there is a ferry, but once you've crossed to that town, is is there any easy way to get to Canaima or Maturin or some place that does tours in the Orinoco delta?

I thought about going through Margarita Island, but it looks like you might have to go through Caracas to get to Margarita Island.

Is there any alternatives to go to Venezuela?

Hi JoJo

Welcome aboard! :)

There is no ferry from Tobago to Venezuela. There is, or at least used to be, a weekly (Wednesday?) ferry from Chaguaramas in Trinidad to Guiria in Venezuela costing around US$100 each way. I'm not sure if this still runs or not, but perhaps Google will enlighten you.

Thanks for the info! Considering how close it is, I would have thought there would have been more ferries or flights into Venezuela. But I guess the demand's not high enough.

I may just have to spend more time in tobago then

Jojo,

the ferry from Chaguaramas / Trinidad is still in operation.

I do not recommend though to travel to Venezuela at this point in time, as there are increasing
security issues everywhere in that country, including Isla Marguerita.
If you don't have important business in Venezuela, don't go there.

Why not Andy? Are you 100% sure that are security issues everywhere in Venezuela. I can tell you for sure there aren`t security issues. There are beautiful and peaceful places in Venezuela.

I had a nice holiday in Marguerita a few years back, it felt safe and the people were very friendly, but then again we only moved around in daylight.

I understand the murder rate in some parts of Venezuela has rocketed in recent years, and it was the only place I ever saw where many properties had burglar bars not only on doors and windows, but literally built from the ground up into the sky then curved around to the house wall, to completely cage the front gardens.

Just an outdate…
After reading this post, I thought I would find out the updated info.

http://www.pier1tt.com/index.php/ferry advised that the service is Suspended due to the unrest.
Price for one way was 690 TT plus75TT service charge. (approx $128USD)

A also called “For Reservations from Trinidad -  passengers are asked to call Pier 1′s office at 868-634-4472 ext 25.” They confirmed the suspension is still on; dated Oct 20, 2014.
