I am coming again the end of april. does anyone know are they sold across the road on the mall side of the highway or on the other side of the highway? I need my fix !! help! rick ps - I also looked for Hot on 'D' Spot nearer to town . also no luck.

Re: doubles
I have never seen doubles sold in Tobago ... but in Trinidad they are sold everywhere.
Maybe it's worth checking out Scarborough near the Ferry as the Trinidadians will want some when they arrive.
I don't understand why they are not more widely available in Tobago.
Regards

Re: doubles
We've seen an increasing number of vendors selling doubles on various spots along Milford Road in the early hours. Be up early as you won't find one after 8am....

Re: doubles
My favorite vendor can be found at the junction of Milford Road/Pigeon point Road right across Pizza Boys. THere's another two I know of , one of them got a stall at Penny Savers and the other a bit farther down at Stumpy's Hardware Store.

Doubles are widely available in Tobago! Regular spots include

2)Outside Stumpy's in Canaan (Stumpy's hardware car park)
3)Airport - near the car park
4)Scarborough, outside Standard on the Esplanade

Re: doubles
Of East Indian descent, doubles are a sort of sandwich made from two bara (a flat unleavened fried bread) filled with curried chick peas, called chana. This is then topped with mango, shadon beni, cucumber, coconut, tamarind, and extra extra pepper sauce. Doubles are the most popular 'street' fast food in Trinidad and Tobago. Delicious from reputable sources and a guaranteed tummy-buster when not.

Re: doubles
We've been going to Tobago since 2009, and there are almost ALWAYS a doubles vendor just beside the Cinema in the Lowlands Mall every morning from about 8am - noon (when they run out, they close up shop). In the evenings near Stumpy's there is another vendor (their's are a little more 'sweet' in flavour, but also good.)
If you are in Tobago and are not eating DOUBLES on a regular basis (A full meal for only $TT4!) you are doing it wrong!

Re: doubles
Just to add to Kurt's response....Doubles are available from the road that runs alongside the mall (turn at the lights off the highway) everyday except Sundays. I'd suggest you go before 11 as they often sell out by then. The ones at Stumpys are on sale from lunchtime and during the afternoon.

Re: doubles
I've bought from the vendor in Stumpy's car park and they were quite good. They are of a good size, the channa is not too runny, bara nice and light not greasy. Actually better than a lot I've had in Trinidad.

Re: doubles
Just back from Tobago so here's a bit of update on the doubles situation. All the vendors I'd mentioned earlier were still in business on the regular spots but definitely not having regular '' opening hours''. They might all appear at different hours thoroughout the day .. Having tried all this trip we now think the best one is the young Trinidadian couple selling at Stumpy's lot. Not only their doubles are incredibly delicious but also larger than any other we've ever come across in Tobago..

Re: doubles
Just to complete the list of doubles vendors: there's now a vendor who sells at the intersection of the airport road, Milford Road, and the Pigeon Point road, most days.
So a complete list would be:
1. Airport - mornings (but many times I don't see them),
2. Pigeon Point intersection - mornings,
3. Stumpy's car park (afternoons),
4. Lowlands Mall - mornings (opposite the cineplex),
5. Scarborough on Milford Road by Standards - Wed-Sun mornings only. It's called Hot on D Spot. They are farthest away from the Crown Point area, but they are unique in that they fry their bara right there in the van, so its usually fresher and hotter than the other vendors. It makes a big difference. They also offer Aloo Pies and sometimes have Kachorie, Saheena and Pholourie as well.
Have fun trying them all out!
