Castara Fishermens Co-Op
Hello everyone - Just curious on the progress of the Co-Op. Any info would be interesting. Did they tear it down and try something more in keeping to Castara?[wishfull thinking] I'm sure it will suit their needs well and wish the best result for all. All the best - Rick

Construction on the building continues very slowly. The word is that the contractor has run out of money ?
We campaigned at length to prevent it's contruction in it's present form and the THA eventually agreed to listen to what the fisherfolk actually wanted. Unfortunately they, the THA and contractors, smiled and nodded their heads and then proceeded to build exactly as they had originally intended but now able to say that they did actually consult the local interested parties !
We still hope (?) that the building will be timber clad and have a pitched roof though the latter does not look as though it will happen.

The concrete has mellowed a little.............we will have to live with it.
Village life continues the same , the people are as friendly as ever, the ladies still bake bread,the beach is great , the water still inticing and as you look out to sea you do not see the building !

We are making things happen for the best in the village, slowly, but there have been significant changes.
It is an NGO and so has the ability to make the authourities sit up and take note !

Current projects are getting 'sleeping policemen' speed bumps by the primary school ( to be finished summer 2016 ? ), The dangerous wall below Blue Mango in Depot Road and continuing to replace all the wire bins around the village with concrete ones which can be kept tidier. 5 have been built so far by the group and volunteers working at weekends with contributions of labour and materials , breakfasts and liquid refreshments always welcomed !

Thanks Chris -It's good to hear of the effort to keep Castara in wonderful character.I think a pitched roof and wood siding would be great ! Or maybe get the kids at the school to paint it .Maybe the contractor running low on funds will let time heal. All the best - Rick
