Rex Turtle Beach hotel

Post by Ambroseosullivan »

Hi
My first post but have been aware of the site over the years. Came to Tobago on my honeymoon in 1986 and like many have continued to return. With effect from December 1st, Rex Turtle Beach Tobago will be run by the Canadian company Sunwing and will become Starfish Tobago Resort. They have promised to upgrade the property and help tourism in Tobago. More details of this are on the main Rex Resort webpage under breaking news.

Hi Ambrose

Welcome aboard and thanks for posting that tasty morsel.

The full press release from Rex Resorts can be read at http://rexresorts.com/rex-special-news/. The following is a news brief from Sunwing Travel Group (17 October 2018). I confess to being astonished that they believe that the Magdalena Grand is located on Pigeon Point beach. I wonder if they know where there new hotel is located?
Sunwing is pleased to offer Canadians a new tropical destination this coming winter with the addition of a seasonal flight service to the Caribbean island of Tobago for the very first time. Direct flights from Toronto will operate on Thursdays between December 20, 2018 and April 18, 2019 inclusive. Sunwing is anticipated to be the only Canadian leisure carrier to offer a direct flight service to this tropical destination.

The smaller of two islands that make up the nation of Trinidad and Tobago, this beautiful destination attracts vacationers with its rich heritage, lively culture and lush landscapes. A popular spot for divers, with crystal-clear waters that are teeming with vibrant marine life, travellers who choose to visit this vibrant destination can look forward to relaxing on pristine beaches, swimming in calm bays and taking in breathtaking views.

President of Tour Operations for Sunwing, Andrew Dawson, commented on the news, “We are delighted to be offering our customers even more choice from Toronto this winter with the addition of the island of Tobago. Offering beach relaxation, warm Caribbean hospitality and a wide range of tours and excursions to experience, we’re sure that Tobago will prove to be a popular addition to our roster.”

“Travellers departing from Toronto Pearson have a new choice for their travels to the south this winter, with Sunwing’s weekly service to the island of Tobago,” said Kim Stangeby, Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Greater Toronto Airports Authority. “This new destination provides convenient nonstop access to leisure travel options in the area and further enhances the network of more than 170 destinations passengers can reach with direct service from Toronto Pearson.

Secretary for Tourism, Culture and Transportation for Tobago, Nadine Stewart-Phillips, also celebrated the new addition, “The Tobago House of Assembly welcomes Sunwing to Tobago. Sunwing’s flight and hotel package offering will significantly enhance our efforts in tourism at all levels.”

Sunwing will offer a number of resorts on the island including the new Starfish Tobago Resort, opening in December. This family-friendly resort combines an enviable beachfront situation with varied accommodations, complimentary sports and activities such as sailing and two on-site restaurants, one of which specializes in fresh seafood and island cuisine. Located on a beautiful stretch of Pigeon Point Beach, Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort provides luxurious accommodations, three sparkling pools, lush hiking trails and an on-site PGA-designed 18-hole, 72 par golf course.

All Sunwing packages to Tobago include return airfare and airport transfers, accommodations and the services of a Sunwing representative. Ten adults travelling together can receive special prices, added values and reduced deposits. For more information on group vacations click here. All packages include return flights on Sunwing Airlines where passengers can sit back and relax while on board, with award-winning inflight service, complimentary non-alcoholic beverage service and buy on board selection of light meals and snacks with choices inspired by Food Network Canada Celebrity Chef, Lynn Crawford. Passengers also benefit from a generous complimentary 23kg checked luggage allowance.

Interesting news.

I'm sure that Magdalena Grand would prefer to be on Pigeon Point beach!

I see Coco Reef is advertised on Grand Anse Beach where you can enjoy Grenadian cuisine. Interesting marketing ploy!
