Where have all my wafflers gone?

Yes I know that I have been quiet myself recently, run out of steam a bit with not much to say, but, apart from dear young Bill and Sandra, where have all my regulars gone?
One I'm most concerned about is Tony. Where are you Bruv? I hope everything is alright with you and yours. If you're still visiting this thread, just give us the nod please!
Are any of you in touch with him?

I'm still around.... It's just a busy time at the moment, as I have visitors from the UK and I'm trying to decorate in between!! (And you think that decorating in the UK is difficult!!? At least you can drop into B&Q / Homebase / Ikea - or even Home Depot in Bill's case!). Here.... Sigh.... Hot.... Bothered.... Painty!!! ;)

Looking forward to the next instalment, by the way....

Lisa.

Oh dear Noe ...

Have you waffled yourself into oblivion?

For wafflers of your calibre I guess it's good to step back and have a word with yourself once in a while and then ... hey presto ... fresh waffle to read.

I wait for when you are ready ... in your own time ... as they say in Tobago, there is always another day

Regards

Morning Carol
No post from Tony for a while, like you wondering if all is well. Maybe he's back on the "hippie trail" or I've bored him to death.More likely the latter.

Morning All,

Commiserations to anyone affected by XL going belly-up. Hope you get your holiday/money back.

I'm relieved to be hearing from you.Thought maybe either you or I had been sucked into a black hole following that experiment with the particle accelerator thingy in Switzerland!

Lisa and Sandra,
Hope all is going well with your respective refurbishments. Lisa, they are building a B&Q near us which is about the size of Crown Point Airport. It's shaping up to qualify for The Ugliest Building On The Planet Award. What would be the Tobagonian equivalent? I remember seeing a hardware shop called Stumpy's.
We have got to get an electrician in to fix the dodgy light fitting in Son's bedroom, and I have just looked at the estimate for a damp-proof course in our fitted cupboard which is on an outside wall. I looked at it, fainted, and put it down again.
I may look at it again later in the hope that the figures have magically disappeared into the aforementioned black hole. The damp has crept up to the fireplace, which, as much as I hate the thing, don't want the mess of it being ripped out.
Yes I know fireplaces are the in-thing and people pay a fortune for them, but I hate ours! I should be proud of it I know, as it's the original, built of red brick and could easily be used for its original purpose but I think it's too big in comparison to the size of the room, and as it's still open, we get lumps of soot falling down it.It's handy for putting things on though, like bills and estimates.
Paul,
Yes I am a bit waffled-out at present, and I've been busy with this that and the other, including putting my Tobago diary into book form. 9000 words so far....

I am concerned about Tony though. It's been a while since we heard from him and I do remember that Janette had a health scare a while ago, so I hope all is well. If anyone is in touch with him please tell him I'm worried.
Cheers
Noe

I'm back!

Sorry to worry you Sis, (but nice to be missed).

I've been desperately trying to find somewhere warm to go in Jan/Feb 2009. Simply can't afford to fly to Tobago with the price of flights as they are. Apart from that I've been enjoying the wonderful summer (when is this global warming going to kick in?).

I will try to be more attentive in future.

Hi to everyone.

Tony

Hooray!!!!
Yesterday I was about to start cooking dinner when for some strange reason you popped, unbidden, into my head, and I felt this strong urge to check up on you. I am a firm believer in following strong urges, as long as they are legal, which is why I issued that plea.
I have to admit that I am reducing the waffling for a while, so now I can go into hibernation with an easy mind. I'm not abdicating completely, just taking a break as I've stuff to do.
See ya!

PS. Not" global warming" but "climate change". Britain may get colder!

Hello everybody peeps,
I have been here all the time but struggling to find time to log on and check new posts let alone respond.I finally got the bedroom finished. My closest friends had a death in the family and they are now supporting his elderly father on a daily basis. Hence I could not pravail on thier time for help with relaying the carpet etc.and the radiator is still in the garage where it was put after he took it off for me.My sister and B in Law came from Yorkshire on an impromptu visit to help me get sorted.
Got a family wedding to attend in Dundee in October,so been traipsing about trying to sort Mother and myself out with clothes.Letting the train take the strain for the journey. I'm quite looking foreward to it actually.First class return from Stevenage for both of us £124 with a disabled rail card plus assistence at each station with luggage and transfer.6hr journey so better find a good book.
Got Bob the bathroom fitter here at mo. My old shower tray leaked into the downstairs loo ceiling so I am having a new shower fitted and he has overboarded the damaged ceiling. Had to run round to Mother's house this morning cos I couldn't get to either of my toilets :!: Serves me right for plying them with so much tea and drinking so much myself
Must go now to get the dosh to pay Bob

Good Afternoon Mates,

Not much new on this side. We're in the process of drying out after torrential rains this last weekend. Chicago is approximately 1100 miles (1770 k) from where hurricane Ike came ashore in Texas and we still had over 8.5 inches (22 cm) of rain in 2-1/2 days. Didn't have much damage personally but it took us about twice as long as usual to return from our cottage on Sunday afternoon as our route takes us through some of the worst hit flood areas. As bad as it is here it's mostly localized to a number of small areas; it's hard to imagine how wide spread the flooding is in Texas. :(

Gill, Sounds like you could use a vacation in Tobago 8)

You sound even more fraught than me. At least you have a wedding to look forward to, hope the clothes shopping went well and you now both look like absolute divas.

Bill
Although Ike was all the news here for a few days the collapse of Lehman overtook further reports. Glad you and yours are fine even though a tad damp. How is Galveston doing ?

Carol
Thank you for your good wishes. Kitchen now installed - never again ! How much tea can three guys drink in a day - answer, Sri Lanka has no need to worry. Change of plan- OH has resigned from new company so Singapore a no go. Next stop Algeria apparently - what can I say.

Hello Sandra,

A few areas around us are still flooded but with a forecast for warm sunny days for the next week it should be dried up within a few days. Galveston is another story as it's situated on a low lying barrier island and was extensively damaged (probably worse even than New Orleans) but since it's a much smaller city of only 60,000 vs. almost a million the crisis will be easier to handle. Still it will be a long time before people will be able to rebuild and return.

Algeria? Are you planning on living there or will DH (and you) commute ?

Was up last night treating our cat so listened to the World Service, Galveston does sound like a total nightmare, I understand that relief is only now getting through -horrible situation, let's hope the aid will be a damn site better than the debacle of New Orleans.
No, I will not be living in Algeria, being a Brit my home is my castle. Having said that am rather excited to have the opportunity, will go out and see, smell, taste and commute as the whim takes me. OH is now so stressed a little R and R is on the cards before the next contract - but hey you're a long time dead !

Realise you are busy, aren't we all, but do come and have a chat. I am sure I can't be the only one that misses you. Well, know I'm not. Life is a little in limbo here, kitchen sorted but OH not. Was really looking forward to Singapore but hey, that's life. Algeria would not be my first choice but probably becoming rather parochial these days ! Should only be for a short period then the prospect of Houston looms - what's a girl to do ?
Take care and do make contact soon.

Hi everyone,
I am still chasing my tail. Why are there never enough hours in the day or is that just a sure sign that the ageing thing is catching up with me
Have now organised for Bob the bathroom builder to refurb mum's bathroom. He is going to rip the whole thing out and start again. It will be completely tiled and will have a large walk in shower with a wall mounted seat in place of the bath. The shower tray will be dropped to be level with the floor for easy access, with air assisted sliding door panels.Hopefully it will help her to remain independant at home for longer. It will happen whilst we are at the wedding so Mum will miss most of the mess but I expect she will have to have a few days with me when we come home.I will have to be very organised in advance of our trip :!:

Sandra and Bill, yes you are both spot on about the stress and need for a bit of 'Bagonion sunshine.Sooooo I booked a flight with Virgin last Tuesday to travel in April. YES :!: \:D/ :!: \:D/ :!:
They had carribean offers for a while so I paid £465 which equalled last years XL price. I'm feeling better already
Yeah Sandra, there are no pockets in a shroud.I can vouch for that having dressed plenty of people in them in my time.
Changing the subject somewhat, you mentioned treating the cat.Hope you were successfull. I've aquired a second one. He was around the garden for weeks and helping himself to food through the cat flap. Now he has decided that he lives here.No arguement he just does.I took him to the vet but he is not chipped. He is a neutered tom and knows all the basic house rules.Wildly affectionate and really rather beautifull; a totally black moggy.Strange really as I had one my two 17yr old cats put down last year and the remaining one is also black. Her name is Lady so now I have Lady and the Tramp
Bye for now

Been away so sorry did not reply. Great that you are going out in April must be so wonderful to have that to look forward to - maybe we will see you there. Seems that our itinerary changes by the week these days , one moment Singapore, next Libya now Algeria - at my age can't keep up !No doubt we will sort it eventually.
Thank you so much for your concern regarding our mog, glad to say the old boy is now fit and healthy. At 15 he knows all the moves to pull at our heartstrings - tonight I made langoustine with pea risotto - guess who ate most of my langoustine!
Hope all is going well with you, do get in touch. Sorry but can't recall if the wedding has been or is about to happen, whichever have/had a ball I assume .

If you are still about the "waffle" thread give me a sign - thunder or lightning generally gets a response other than that I have even been known to reply to a simple "How you doin' ".

Hi all of you out there

seems a bit quiet at the moment here. How is the weather in UK? Or US for Bill? Germany is getting autumn too quick. Longing for the island so much but have no idea when I will make it next.
Gill, I had to put down my 15 year old cat two weeks ago and try to survive without at the moment. I brought him to the vet almost every month and every time I thought its the end but he came up and recovered all the time. This time his renal (?) collapsed and that was it.

Unfortunately I don't have a garden on my own. Only a big balcony but on the 2nd floor. So I don't think a cat will come along and decide to stay :) But I have a good friend with a pet shop who emails me almost every day about cute little cats who need a new home... Don't think the cat-free time will last long :?

Sandra whats the current itinerary trend?

All the best
Gisela

So sorry - cats are invariably a pain in the ass but also totally rewarding. Unlike dogs they stay because they want to. I know how bad you must feel but that is the cycle, we happen to live longer than our pets. Take in a cat that needs a home - plenty of those around.
On a brighter note, off to Houston on Sunday, OH has a meeting and managed to get me on board, only 48hrs. but better than sitting here complaining about the weather ! Our itinerary is , well, at best a little scarey at worst a total step into the unknown. Have no idea what will happen next, can only say it is all rather exciting. We have been so secure for years , feel a bit like a teenager - can't wait for the next Email to find if another company "would like to talk".
As to the weather here - no comment. Am desperate to tidy the garden and put it to bed for the Winter but it has rained and rained not to mention the terrible wind. Hate wind.
The one bright spot is the thought of Tobago next year !

Greetings All,

Been a while since I've posted because we were on vacation last week and having way too much fun to spend a lot of time surfing the net. We flew out to San Diego California and stayed at an ocean front resort. The resort and area were very nice but, after having been to Tobago and other Caribbean islands, the beaches were a bit of a disappointment. The weather was ideal and we had a great time.

Of course while we were gone our holdings and retirement accounts took quite a beating but we didn't let that stop our enjoying the trip. One realizes how much "smoke and mirrors" is involved in the stock market when all it took was the owner of a very small business going on a vacation for a week to cause one of the greatest market collapses in history and upon returning to have the largest single day gain  It's a good thing I didn't go for two weeks

There has been a sighting of "Her Royal Highness" on the Birdwatcher thread.

Perhaps if we all bow and grovel enough herself will grace us with a brief appearance in the Waffle [-o<
