Good Morning Gisela!
This is where we differ, I hate shopping, unless I'm somewhere different and there are unusual things to see, such as a fascinating market in Malta I went to once.
The problem with this country now, unless you go to somewhere like Camden market ( would you believe I've NEVER been there!) is that virtually everywhere is the same. Every town has its shopping centre or mall, with identical shops. If you go to a new town, you can predict exactly which shops will be there! Even famous places like Oxford Street in London, or Princes Street in Edinburgh, have pretty much the same old shops, plus a few department stores. Harrods is fascinating though.
As Bill says, you tend to ignore what's on your doorstep. We hardly ever go into London. The average tourist probably knows London better than me, although I used to work in central London, and travel around it as part of my job. I've forgotten my way around now!
As for Oxford Street, I find it too crowded and noisy, and parts of it are quite shabby.I once took Daughter there because she convinced me there would be a much better choice of trainers there.
No.
We came home with a pair we could have bought locally. She enjoyed it though, especially all the "buff" young assistants in the giant Nike shop. I'd better explain that "buff" is the latest word for handsome etc. Very odd. She is keen on West Indian types, and one reason she looked forward to going to Tobago was the thought of all those "buff" boys waiting for her at the airport.( It wasn't exactly like that in reality of course!)
I must hasten to add that she's quite shy really! Like me.
I'd never get a job in tourism! Never mind, there's more to London than shops. On a clear day we can see the London Eye from a high point near here. Might even go on it one day. It looks lovely lit up at night.
Enough rambling! Things to do, places to go, people to see.
Cheers Carolnoe

Good morning Carolnoe,
well, this is almost like Germany. Same stores in every city and the same things in most of the stores. For me Camden Town was totally new. Maybe people find me strange just screeming in almost every shop something like 'oh no', 'oh my god', running around with an open mouth and eyes wide open like a soup plate.

Just like a bl***y tourist. I'm sure my London friend was embarrassed but too polite to say anything
But there will be some "buff" boys at the airport anytime

There are always some "buff" (like this word) boys everywhere around in Tobago. You should take your daughter there! On the other site .... maybe better leave her home or spend you holidays in trying to keep the boys away from your daughter

or spending hours in waiting for her in constant worry.
Don't work too hard these days
Cheers
Gisela

Hello again Gisella'
I'm not sure who you are referring to when you say " Don't work too hard these days". If you mean yourself not working too hard, excellent! That's the idea! If, on the other hand, you are telling me not to work too hard, don't worry, I don't!
I'm at home today, which is the only time I can use a computer. I work in a school, and hardly sit down at all .My lunch "hour" is only half an hour, and, although I haven't tried it, any attempts to get onto even the most innocent site may well be met with lights flashing , sirens wailng, and
STOP appearing on the screen, along with comments from colleagues such as " looking at porn again?"
Yes there were plenty of "buff" boys in Tobago, but not lined up waiting to say hello the way my daughter had imagined! ( thank goodness )
I really MUST do my errands!

If Her Majesty will allow me I will relate a tale of Cornish honesty.
Being a single man I use local the laundery service, where they wash dry and fold(for extra iron) for a fee of courseThey also have a dry cleaning and repair service.I had taken my week's
laundry, and a pair of trousers to be cleaned, and the trousers taken in at the waist(honest).
Today I went to pick up laundry to be told the there was £20 in my shirt pocket and ten in my trousers.
So is that honesty or what?
David,very proud of being Cornish

Kernow Bys Vykken!
David, thank you for brightening up a rather gloomy and glum day with this lovely anecdote.
But young Sir, I know I consider myself the self- appointed Waffling Guru, but you don't need my permission to relate tales of your own. It's good to hear from people, and it stops me monopolising the thread!
I must admit to having a soft spot for the Cornish, and the Scillonians, but I still don't understand why you don't have a name like Jethro Penhaligon ....
Your very good friend

Good Afternoon to all of the Wafflers,
Nothing much new over here. Sad to say that we won't be back to Tobago for at least the next two seasons.

We do time sharing and since we have very mediocre resorts the only way we can get into the tropics in the middle of winter is to bank them early and request a trade far out in the future. We list the resorts we would like to trade into and the dates we want and start an ongoing search. As soon as we get a match we accept it as we don't want to take a chance on turning something down and then not getting a trade we would want. We are going to Mazatlan Mexico in March 2008, which was booked over a year ago, and just confirmed a trip to Puerto Vallarta Mexico for February 2009. Actually I can't be too sad as PV is also a wonderful place to vacation in ( we were there in 2005) and getting away from the snow and cold is always welcome.
Thanks to the feelings of confidence developed by posting on myTobago we became more adventuresome and extended our last Tobago trip to include staying in Castara for several wonderful days with Steph and Ali. With this new found spirit of adventure we're going to extend our PV vacation by staying in a remote fishing village accessible only by boat. If it wasn't for the positive results of our Tobago experiences we would probably continue to limit our trips to the "Resort Areas."
Carol, I found the page about the Kennet and Avon canal but couldn't locate a link to the boat you were on.

Good morning all! Nothing to add. I'm just keeping up to date with the waffle. Supposed to be busy trying to catch up on some paperwork on the computer before I go out to do some real work this afternoon. More coffee is required...

Morning Young Bil,
You actually tried to find "our" boat? Ah, that's very sweet of you to take such an interest
I've tried to find a shortcut by copying out the gobbledegook at the top of the page, so let's try:
http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/UKBoat.aspx? ... ode=BH1085
Yes it worked, except that "Code" has come out as "ode"!
No doubt the Grand Poobah understands all this!

Morning Tony
I'll have one while you're making it!
Am I going mad, or are the times of postings now almost two hours out? I nearly had a fit when I saw the time for your posting as 11.01, surely I haven't been on this computer for that long! My machine says 9.24.
Hey, maybe we've entered a parallel universe. What fun!
Enjoy your coffee.

Hello again Bill and Tony,
I've made my coffee, and as I don't leave the house until 1 pm today I've got plenty of time for waffling while other people are doing real work....
On the subject of coffee, this is what Himself does:
" I'll make us a drink." Two minutes later: " I've put the kettle on. All you've got to do is pour it." Or,
" If you put the kettle on, I'll make us a tea/coffee".
Bill, I'm determined that you will find the boat, particularly as I don't have a photo of it myself! You can also go on the home page for Hoseasons, UK boating holidays, then you can search for Reading Marine Co, Aldermarston (remember CND?) Cadley, and up it should come!
We also have a timeshare; on the beautiful, tiny island of Tresco, one of the Isles of Scilly, off David's territory, the coast of Cornwall. We can't always use it, as it's in school term time (we couldn't afford the holidays!) and I work in a school! We hope to go next year, as I now job-share, and can negotiate with my "partner".
We have swapped a couple of times, but you do have to book way in advance. We are lucky in that we have peak season, and Tresco is so popular it gets snapped up instantly.
Try a bit of googling; type in
tresco and see for yourself. Try "images" too. The system may assume you mean TESCO, which is a giant supermarket intent on taking over the UK, and the world.( It's coming to the US, watch out!)Just tell the system, and Tesco, to get lost!
I'm going to start ranting......
Cheers

Hi fellow waffle clubbers. I`ve been doing some catch up reading, gosh there was a lot to get through! First, Tony and Janette,I am so glad things have turned out well for you. What relief you must be enjoying, I guess your enthusiasm for your holiday has returned in spades. Having nursed in the NHS since my student days in `69--`72 I have witnessed the distress and despair caused by cancer to individuals and families on so many occasions. What better place to relax and regroup than the Beloved Tobago. I am sure the island will provide some soul healing vibes. Just what the Dr ordered, should be available on prescription

.
Carolnoe,I have loved reading your riverside tales. For many years I caravanned (please dont all shun me! Sorry David but yes I too was guilty of clogging cornish roads). I had many encounters with dodgy cooking appliances and toasters that simply didnt.Once my swimming costume almost melted to my midriff when a sheet of flame flashed out from the low level grill compartement. The breeze had wafted in through the conveniently adjacent door, blown out the flame in the grill which then ignighted with a bang from the gas ring above it. My exit was both rapid and very vocal. I grabbed the breakfast orange juice and chucked it over myself to avoid lasting damage!, Ah yes, such is the stuff from which fond memories are made
My culinary prowess survived however and when I had reinstated singleness and freedom the mere mention of eggy bread for breakfast (cub camp favorite when I was Akela) brought up to five of the sprogs teenage mates begging to be included

. Teenage boys and thier shoes take up soooo much space! Cost me a fortune every weekend away in extra bread, eggs and milk. Unfortunately a burst tyre in the fast lane of the M3 ended our gypsy style breaks.
Back to the boat, My son and I have promised ourselves a canal boat holiday one day when he is home again.(currently at her Majesties pleasure). We fancy the slow meander and have already populated the boat with extended family and friends. Meantime Tobago will be my runaway retreat for my annual battery recharging. It does it so well. Well that was a lot of waffle. Bye for now.
Gill xx Joining the kissing thing.

'Ow Do Everyone!
What time is it on your particular planet this morning? I make it 10.31 on Wednesday November 14th 2007.
Gill, I can't remember how all this kissing started, or with whom. Surely it wasn't me?
I daresay David and Bill have already pondered upon this, but are too polite and shy to ask, so I will:
When your cossie almost melted, did you have to cut it off?
I must say, your experiences sound like something out of a "Carry On" film!
I know what you mean about teenage boys and their shoes, my son is a size 12. Hubby is a size 11
Jill, I'm glad you mentioned about the" free pet", as I hadn't noticed. I 'm going to ask for a proportion of our money back, as we never got one. What do you think? 10%?
Speaking of pets, how is the Ladybird Situation Tony? I expect you're glad to be dealing with something as mundane as ladybirds.
I do hope I haven't got the Jills and Gills mixed up. Almost as bad as the Carol(e)s...
See ya!

Morning peeps,
Yes "Noe" as far as I can tell it was YOU! Tony was the first lucky recipient on the occasion of the firework and patio door report.Whilst your O.M was away earning a crust wasn`t

.
The cossie was able to be taken off by me thanks to the application of juice but was unwearable in its selfstyled form. Shame cos it was a favourite. The edges all curled into little black beads making me look as if I had been on the recieving end of Captain Kirk`s laser.Oh I say
I`ve got Ladybirds coming indoors as they do every year aswell but I am stressing a bit about evicting them. Our own species hybernate over winter too and I dont want to put the wrong ones out. They are not very good at staying in a line up to be compared!
Got a few days off this week which is very nice. Got to pop to Halfords in a bit to find a Max Power calender for the sprog then I have a date with a tin of Dark oak wood stain and a new pedestrian garage door which my best mates hubby will fit for me. Yes I too am in the habit of borrowing usefull husbands

Must go now, a womans work is never done!
Bye all xx
P.s it`s 12.22 and is it just me or is the post counting a bit off kilter?
Sorry Chaps, This One's for The Girls

Good afternoon ladies,
This thread seems to be exclusively all- girls at the moment, so with apologies to the chaps, who may wish to sign off now, let's have a girlie chat.
I've spent a gruelling morning at the hairdressers, having my wig re-conditioned and putting the world to rights. Now I'm not privy to what goes on at a men's barbers, nor do I want to be, but at the hairdressers, as we know, it's a cosy world of pampering and girliness.
Have you noticed that you can tell what time of year it is by the subject of conversation at the hairdressers?
January:What sort of Christmas and New Year did you have? Isn't this time of year depessing?
February to March: Isn't this time of year depressing, looking forward to Spring. Are you doing anything at Easter?
April: Isn't it warm/cold for the time of year. Did you do anything at Easter? Have you booked your holidays yet?
May to June: Isn't it warm/cool for the time of year. Where are are you going for your holidays?
July to August: Isn't it hot/cool/miserable. Have you been on holiday yet?
September: Not much of a Summer was it? Where did you go on holiday?
October: The clocks will be going back soon. Isn't this a depressing/lovely time of year? (depending on whether you like the Autumn)
November: Isn't this time of year depressing? Started your Christmas shopping yet?
December:Isn't it miserable/unusually mild for the time of year? Finished your Christmas shopping yet?
My apologies to hairdressers! You're good people and I know you are trained to chat to your clients!
As for the chaps, I do hope I haven't frightened you off forever! Bill, Tony and David, you're quite good wafflers too you know.....
Gill, I'm not sure about the posts counter. I haven't really sent 233 have I?

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you.

Nothing wrong with borrowing husbands as long as you return them in the condition in which you found them!
