yep, spot on there lisa. erm, not the nappy bit though. i also miss the convenience of B&Q and the likes. oh well

just a point re dive/snorkel masks - you certainly can snorkel with a dive mask but definitely not vice versa. a dive mask must have a nose piece (for equalizing, not all snorkel masks have this) and dive masks absolutely must be tempered glass (again, not all snorkel masks are.)

when choosing your mask the nose pocket will be obvious and tempered glass will always be marked as such. if in doubt, ask the staff.

Hiya,

Good point. I'd forgotten about the 'goggles' thing. I was thinking more in terms of the mask/snorkel combo packs that you can get from sports shops. As you say though they do need to be tempered glass to stop them breaking under pressure if you're going to use them for diving.

B&Q?! Yes, that too! Even Ikea (USA equiv Home Depot!) though it's probably not trendy to admit that anymore. Awww sod it - I went past the trendy age about 20 years ago (at least it feels that long ago!).... sigh!

This has certainly gone off-topic!! Anyway Paul, when are you next over?! You must be due another visit soon, surely!?

anytime soon lisa - done pretty much all that i had to do here and i now have quite a lot of stuff that i must give some attention to on island so itll be as soon as i get flights worked out, apartment aired and re-commissioned etc. within the month tho :D 8)

and..., ive just returned from local tesco big hyper place in town. i still find myself sometimes just standing all bewildered at the sheer variety of stuff they sell, which includes wetsuits as well in my local branch  !!

and, never thought id say this but theyre bl**dy good value as well imho - is the uk getting cheaper?

however, i get a better delivery service from standard than i got from argos just recently. 36 days and counting and im still sleeping on a mattress on the floor  .

We had a great Virgin flight out from Gatwick on the 7 February 2008. The flight left slightly late but that was because some passengers had decided to play musical chairs on a completely full flight and were not in their correct seats, certainly not the fault of Virgin. Despite this set back we arrived about fifteen minutes early in Tobago. The cabin staff were very attentive and really genuinely wanted to care for us (unlike some airlines where staff seem to begrudge providing a service). The food was excellent. It was great that the flight was direct to Tobago, and that when we landed we had the whole afternoon left.

The return flight with Virgin was on time leaving and on time landing at Gatwick despite circling for 10 minutes. The food was not so good this time, the beef curry dinner promised turned out to be tough with no curry smell or flavour, and the breakfast left a whole lot to be desired! The staff were helpful and available when needed.

Overall I would recommend VA most highly.

Travelled to Tobago on virgin in August and spent 3 hours standing in a queue at the check in desk on the return flight because the flight was over booked (that is the reason given by the check in staff). Travelled on virgin again from Tobago on 20th November and that flight was delayed by 24 hours due to a technical problem. Then I experienced an absolute nightmare journey from Gatwick to Tobago on the 11th December and arrived in Tobago almost 12 hours after the scheduled arrival time (ie 1.00am Friday morning). Left Cambridge at 5am to get to Gatwick and arrived in Scarborough, Tobago exactly 24 hours after. And just when I thought it could not get worse, the return flight on the 18th December was not only delayed by 24 hours due to a faulty aircraft, but the check in process on the 19th was so painfully slow that even the cabin crew voiced their frustrations at the slowness of the process. We then had to disembark the aircraft in Grenada before finally heading to Gatwick.

I'm beginning to wonder if I am jinxed or maybe I should travel with BA instead.

We've just got back and personally thought Virgin were pretty mediocre. Floght out was fine but flight back was poor - it wasa full flight but they still found it impossible to seat my wife and I together, even though I had selected seats together upon booking months ago and also checked in online the mroning of the flight. The food was also poor.

Would much prefer to go with BA next time, especially if they were to start a direct flight.
