Thanks David
No I didn't know about the sand; how interesting! I know the Scillonians have had tough times in the past, trying to make a living out of processing kelp, for example, and sometimes having to survive on a diet of limpets, which they called sea beef.
Nowadays the main industries are tourism and flower farming I suppose.
I've been trying to find a book about Scily called "The Fortunate Isles" which I started to read a few years ago, and never finished, but It's disappeared into the un- chartered depths of my house. I expect Himself has put it away in the furthest, highest corner of the deep, built-in cupboard that I can't reach even with a step ladder!

Hello all
We are now back from a wonderful holiday in Malaysia and have enjoyed catching up on all of the happenings.
To keep the theme of isalnds up we thoroughly enjoyed Sarawak and Langkawi but from a personal point of view as good as they were Tobago remains my favourite and I am looking forward to both the planning and our actual holiday in January next.
Keep up the good work
Paul

Good evening all,
Been away at our summer home for a three day holiday weekend (Memorial Day) with our son and daughter-in-law and all three grandkids and it feels good to be back to the peace and quiet of the office.

I see that it didn't mattter that I was gone as I would probably not have posted anyway as the thread got into several areas that I (being on this side of the pond) know nothing about. Of course there are a lot of those areas.
Noe, I enjoyed your pictures. Remember that the importance of them is not how well they came out but the fond memories they will bring back as you look at them in the future.

Hmmm ... how about a 'Waffle Feedback' ...?
That will leave Carole's masterpieces in her blog ... but having said that I guess the feedback could degenerate into more and more waffle as 'Liquid Sunshine' has been prone to do at times
Keep it up Carole ... you are giving me some ideas on some great new light bulb jokes
Regards

Awww Young Bill!
Are you feeling left out?
Never mind, my faithful poyap, I'm sure one of us will introduce a more international topic!
Paul T, welcome to the Waffle thread
It does, however, hurt me deeply to have to reprimand you (wait for it):
THERE IS NO E IN MY NAME. That is why they call me Noe!

As a punishment I command you to read all 40 pages.
Forty already? Heavens to Murgatroyd.
That's not a bad idea about a separate feedback thread; but I think things may get very confused, and I don't want to take liberties with Steve's site! As for more waffle; bring it on! (help, I've just come over all American

)
I'm glad you like my stories; I always wait eagerly for people's reactions (fragile ego you know) and I have taken Tony's advice about printing them and posting them to myself, though I've been doing it backwards and posting them here first!
Steve, once again I must praise this forum. I've looked at a couple of writer's forums to get some more opinions of my masterpieces, but I find them so crowded and confusing; what with the myriad of different topics and everyone using silly graphics and nicknames that I have yet to post anything on one. There is the Short Humour Site, but it's too short for me, though I have now sent them an abridged version of "Fishing".
Anyway Paul, now you have ventured onto this thread, don't go away!( hmm, what can I say about weather?)

I've just returned from my least favourite shopping trip; the supermarket.
Whilst scrabbling around in the cosmetics section something caught my eye that I've heard off, but never seen before. It's a skin cream, aimed at Asian men and women.
The men's is called "Fair and Handsome" and is "specially formulated for tough male skin". Clever marketing, that; those words are designed to reassure men that they are still masculine and tough even though they are buying face cream.
The women's is called "Fair and Lovely", and is also "scientifically formulated"; containing amongst other strange things "pearl dust". Eh?
There is a picture on the men's product showing some poor so -and -so with half his face pinky- white, and the other half brown.
If this stuff works, which I'm sure it does not, who knows what damage it does to the skin, and how can it look natural?
It confirms my long -held belief that humans are not as intelligent as we like to think we are, and are also totally barmy.
On the one hand, you have the Asian culture believing that you can only be beautiful if you have light coloured skin, and on the other hand you have people of Northern European origin giving themselves skin cancer by spending hours under the sun or lamps in an effort to turn their skin brown! Why can't we just accept ourselves as we are?
The sooner the Martians invade and teach us all some sense the better!

Hey, leave the Mermaids out of it, they get a bad enough press as it is without you making it worse.
Anyway I do hope the Martians arrive soon we need somebody with some sense to run this country!

Hi Noe
Good to view your holiday pics. especially as today has been so foul -weather I mean. Hate being stuck in when there is so much to do in the garden. Maybe I should get on with the pile of ironing that is falling out of the basket - that should cheer me up ! Have total empathy regarding supermarkets, how anyone can enjoy the experience beats me. You need a Phd. in chemistry to have a hope of knowing what the hell you are buying in the cosmetics department. Then you have to double check to ensure free range means exactly that - then you find specs. have been left on kitchen table so small print impossible to read. Do you think I'm a tad fed up ?

This is another area I obviously know nothing about.
