Steve - It's hard work, but the sprats can be caught with a strip of fish on a size 16 hook under a freshwater float as can pin fish /small gars.
When hooking the sprats pass the hook through the bony channel in front of their eyes and they stay alive far longer especially if you tie the hook so the it hangs freely from a 1 cm loop. It also moves far more naturally this way and you get more takes.
The knot is simple, for visitors Steve or Kevin /Kester on grand slam will show you how.
