We are looking forward to our first visit to Tobago in March 2004. Our son is 14 months old. Should we bring his car seat? We haven't decided whether or not we will rent a car, if we do, can we get a car seat from the rental agency? Any other tips re:travelling to Tobago with a baby would be appreciated. Thanks, Susan

Susan, I've just started researching the same thing. We are going to be down in Tobago with our 10 months old in April. Check out
http://www.yestourism.com They work with some car rental companies that rent infant car seats also. Have a great trip! Maria

Dear Susan and Paul, my brother just visited Tobago with an infant and the rental company had a car seat available. However, should you stay for a period longer than a week, it will be less expensive to bring your own (if you have luggage allowance).

We took our 11 month old and his seat. The big box the seat was in caused some fun but our reasoning was:
1)We knew we had a good seat that matches (exceeds) current European standards.
2)You may have spare seats on the plane (unlikely til May) and then you would need the seat if you wanted junior to use that seat.
3)Getting to the airport. If you are not in your own car you may need this then depending where you are going from.
As it was we kept the seat out of the box until we saw the transport to the airport couldn't use it and boxed it the night befor.
It was taken as special luggage at check in.
Customs in Tobago made us open the box to check inside. Gosh customs in Tobago was slooowww that night.
It does take a lot of space though and with all the other stuff small kiddies need... (Thankyou Excel for 40kg's).

yesterday I checked on the shelves at Penny Savers Supermarket: there were no huggies swimmers. Only found a "training pumper" which look like a "larger underwear for toddlers". Will try today in two pharmacies in Scarborouh, will keep you posted if any luck. ciao Gabriele
