We are looking to travel to Tobago and found the Blue Haven Hotel on the Internet. Does anyone have any info about it? We have searched all over the Internet and cannot find one person who has stayed there since it re-opened. Last year we stayed at Nisbet on Nevis (amazing!), and are looking for a similar place that is simple but nice, relaxed & good food (with flexibility to go off-hotel). The press promoted it well upon its re-opening but are there any first hand reports out there? Thanks!

Hello Milo No, to be frank I’ve received no first-hand visitor reports about the Blue Haven. Of course it only recently re-opened and being such a small boutique-style hotel, I guess it will take time for comment to filter through. The feedback I’ve had from local sources gives me very positive vibes. It certainly fits the bill as far as the preferences in your message go. As I say, I’ve had very positive feedback - so much so that Jill and I have decided to stay there for a few days from 29th January next. We shall naturally produce a full review of the hotel on our return. Just as a matter of interest, we stayed at the Nisbet over Christmas/New Years in 1987. I believe its changed hands since then. I really liked it, although I admit that Jill was not too keen on the beach or swimming.

Steve, Thanks for the reply, we look forward to your report. You were at Nisbet quite a while ago (prince Charles era), -- the beach is still not great for snorkeling/swimming as it is on the east side (windy side) of the island, but the beachcombing is amazing (we walked for an hour down the beach and only saw one person fishing) and now they have a pool if the water is a bit too stirred up. But we would go back in a second, truly an amazing place and the island is so friendly...

Milo - based on everything you have said, we obviously think alike and have similar tastes. You have a real treat waiting for you. If you like Nevis, you will love Tobago. I'll have a blank application form ready for the Association of Tobago Nuts.

I visited the Blue Haven two years ago last February for lunch and asked to see a room or two. It's an interesting place, in one of the better Scarborough residential areas, and it's surrounded by homes. It is small and intimate. We saw only the better rooms that face directly on the ocean. Some of the bathrooms have a glass wall that lets you look to the ocean while showering; however, the bathroom is at the back of the room so if you want privacy from others in the room, you must draw a curtain. The pool is smallish (about the size of that at the Coco Reef) and doesn't have much shade. The hotel is situated on a low cliff, so you must take stairs to the beach (and climb up them aferward). There is a small beachside restaurant serving simple food under palm trees. There was moderate surf when we were there. Robert Mitchum and Rita Hayworth are said to have stayed there for the filming of a movie (was it called "Heven Knows, Mr. Allyson" or something like that. I also remember that "Swiss Family Robinson" may have been filmed on that site.) It is not convenient to restaurants, so taxis or a rental car would be needed. Hope this helps.
